Filter by:This study will collect safety and performance data of the Photodynamic Bone Stabilization System (PBSS) when used for the treatment of fractures of the humerus secondary to metastatic cancer.
The proposed project will be a multi-centre, prospective observational study to determine the prognosis and determinants of functional outcomes of patients with proximal humerus fractures. Approximately 10 centres will participate in this observational cohort, each enrolling at least 50 patients over the course of 2 years.
Patients treated with circular external fixation will have better outcomes (as measured by range of motion (ROM), alignment, outcome surveys) than those treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF).
Displaced, multi-part intracapsular, proximal humerus fractures represent a major challenge for patients and orthopedic surgeons. Proximal humerus fractures represent the third most common fracture after hip and distal radius fractures, and more than 20% of these fractures meet operative indications. Unfortunately, one of the major complications of these fractures is the development of avascular necrosis (AVN), or death of the bone as a result of the loss of blood supply to it. Currently, the ability to predict AVN is limited. The purpose of this study is to determine if computed tomography imaging can identify a quantifiable predictor of AVN following this type of humeral fracture.
In the present phase-I clinical trial we investigate safety and feasibility of an augmentation with preoperatively isolated autologous BMC cells seeded onto ß-TCP in combination with an angle stable fixation (Philos plate®) for the therapy of proximal humeral fractures.
Fractures of the proximal humerus account for between 5% and 8% off all reported fractures. Post-operative shoulder pain is highly frequent. Due to either surgical procedure, soft tissues surrounding the shoulder area can be damaged. The purpose of the current clinical trial was to compare the effects of physiotherapy versus physiotherapy plus TrP-DN on pain and function in patients who exhibit post-operative shoulder pain after a PHILOS procedure for proximal humeral fixation or rotator cuff tear repair.
This study will test the hypothesis that daily subcuaneous administration of 20µg of teriparatide (TPTD) as compared to daily subcuaneous placebo for twelve weeks accelerates proximal 2-segment humerus fracture healing and improves the three dimensional structural properties of bone as measured via quantitative bone image analysis and finite element modeling assessed by quantitative computed tomography.
Research question: Do patients using a neutral rotation brace post surgery have improved functional outcome and external rotation of the shoulder compared to current best practice using a polysling holding the proximal humerus in internal rotation? Primary objectives: To compare post-operative functional outcome scores obtained at 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 3 months and 1 year. (Scores at 6 weeks and 3 months in clinical review and postal scores at 9 weeks and 1 year) between patients held in neutral versus current standard rotation. These will be compared to scores taken pre-operatively. Benefits: There may be no extra benefits to patients from this trial however the results from the trial will help improve treatment for future patients at this hospital, and others across the country. Risks/disadvantages: The operation is the same in both groups studied, the study is investigating the use of the two different slings. The post-operative treatment is also the same, and all patients on the trial will receive the same amount of physiotherapy. It isn't anticipated that there will be any additional risk from this trial.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of shoulder replacement surgery in realization a computer assisted 3D planning compared to conventional 2D planning.
The hypothesis of this study is to determine whether the technique of intramedullary locking nail presents clinical results comparable to the technique of locking plates, based on the Constant Score.
