Filter by:A randomised, open label, controlled PK standard of care vs doravirine plus 2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors backbone in pregnant women initiating combination antiretroviral therapy in the second trimester of pregnancy.
Background: HIV causes AIDS, a serious disease that can lead to fatal infections. HIV infection can be controlled but not cured, nor is there a vaccine to prevent it. Antibodies may offer a promising new way to prevent HIV infection. Antibodies are proteins that are naturally made by the body to fight germs. One antibody (VRC01.23LS) has been tested in the lab and was found to block HIV-like viruses. Researchers want to find out if it is safe to inject VRC01.23LS into people. Objective: To test the safety of VRC01.23LS in healthy adults. Eligibility: Healthy people aged 18 to 60 years. Design: Participants will be divided into 6 groups: Some will get 1 dose of VRC01.23LS. They will visit the clinic up to 14 times in 24 weeks. Some will get 3 doses, each 12 weeks apart. They will have 25 clinic visits over 48 weeks. For some participants, the drug will be given through a tube attached to a needle inserted into a vein in the arm. This will take about 30 minutes. Others will receive the drug as an injection under the skin in a fatty area of the belly, arm, or thigh; each dose may need up to 3 individual injections. Participants will stay in the clinic up to 8 hours on the days they receive VRC01.23LS. Participants will receive a thermometer and measuring tool. They will check their temperature daily for 7 days after they receive the study drug. They will measure any redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.
This is a randomized controlled trial design. The investigators plan to recruit about 60 to 70 emergency department nurses from a medical center in Taipei, Taiwan. After completing the paper consent form, these nurses will be randomly assigned to 2 groups, which are a control group and an experimental group. The pre-test includes the demographic data sheet, HIV testing related knowledge and practice scale, and The Health Care Provider HIV/ AIDS Stigma Scale (HPASS). All nurses will receive a learning material when they finish the pre-test. In addition, the experimental group will be provided a real HIV testing and counselling by a researcher. The post-test will be finished one month later of pre-test in the control group, and one month later while the intervention completed in the experimental group. The semi-structural interview will be performed to the experimental group to collect and analyze their opinion toward the experiential HIV testing.
This study is designed to develop and test an individual decision aid for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) tailored to Black women who have been exposed to intimate partner violence and are working with a domestic violence service provider. three different ways of delivering the tailored decision aid are being tested: 1) as an individual tool; or 2) as a shared decision-making tool with a domestic violence advocate; as compared to generalized information. The goal of decision aid will be to address key cultural and structural factors affecting these women and can help them gain PrEP awareness and access.
This study tests a 5-session cognitive behavioral approach program (herein referred to as the 1MoreStep intervention) to train Black women living with HIV (LWH) and exposed to intimate partner violence (IPV) in the past 2 years (hereafter, BWLWHI) in: 1) cognitive and behavioral skills to access internal and external sources of strength (e.g. self-reliance, safety net); safety strategies, knowledge about Undetectable = Untransmissible (U=U) and HIV care; and reduce internalized and anticipated stigma; 2) communication skills to respond to enacted HIV and IPV stigma and enlist social support; and 3) addressing structural barriers to HIV care engagement with an HIV navigator component. The intervention is informed by the HIV-Stigma Framework and a resilient-reintegration model which views women as active participants in responding to IPV and managing life with HIV. Aim 1: Examine preliminary efficacy of the 1MoreStep intervention on: (a) IPV safety strategies (informal and formal resources, safety planning, and placating strategies at baseline, 3-month and 6-month follow-up visits); and (b) HIV care engagement (medical record confirmed visit with an HIV care provider, antiretroviral therapy (ART) prescription, medication adherence, and viral load status during 3-month and 6-month follow-up visits). Aim 2: Examine the acceptability and feasibility of the 1MoreStep intervention operationalized by (a) quantitative measures: session attendance and fidelity to key intervention components and (b) qualitative interviews to assess: program fit, facilitators and barriers to participation, and using 1MoreStep intervention skills.
The study will test four economic empowerment intervention components to identify the combination that best enhance viral suppression. The study design is a 2-to-the 4 factorial experiment. The 2 represents the level of each component:0 (receive) or (don't receive) four components: 1) Financial Literacy Training (FLT); 2) Incentivized Matched Youth Savings Accounts (YSA) with income-generating activities (IGAs); 3) A manualized intervention for ART adherence and stigma reduction (Suubi Cartoon); and 4) Engagement with HIV treatment-experienced role models who share their lived experiences of HIV. Guided by the MOST framework, the study will test each of the four components' performance and their combinations on the primary outcome, viral suppression. Resulting in 16 unique conditions representing all possible combinations of the 4 components. The study will randomize at the level of health clinics (N=48). Clinics will be randomized to provide one of the 16 conditions, with 12 ALHIV (aged 11-17 years) enrolled per clinic, yielding main effects and interaction effects for the 4 components on sustained viral suppression. Sustained viral suppression is defined as an undetectable viral load on all 12-, 24- and 36-month follow-up assessments.
This study will test the effectiveness of a youth-designed multilevel intervention, Tu'Washindi, to increase PrEP use and reduce intimate partner violence (IPV) among Kenyan AGYW and to identify implementation challenges and strategies to facilitate future scale-up in programmatic settings to maximize public health impact. Through a cluster randomized controlled trial (cRCT) design, twenty-two administrative wards in Siaya County, western Kenya will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive either the 6-month Tu'Washindi intervention plus usual HIV prevention services or usual HIV prevention services alone. Approximately 72 AGYW will be enrolled from each ward (N= 1,584), with follow-up visits at months 3, 6, and 12 post-enrollment. A mixed methods process evaluation will also be conducted using programmatic data, follow-up questionnaires from trial participants, approximately 500-1000 exit surveys with men, and approximately 100 qualitative interviews with AGYW participants, male partners, and intervention providers. These data will characterize fidelity and quality of intervention implementation, explore and test mechanisms of change, and capture contextual factors influencing intervention outcomes, with the goal of informing future refinement and implementation. The population for this study is AGYW ages 15-24 in Siaya County, Kenya; their male partners, ages 15 or older; and health providers delivering the intervention, ages 18 and above, who are working with this population.

Key populations at risk of HIV (including men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, transgender women, and female sex workers) are more likely to be infected with HIV but less likely than members of the general population to know of their HIV status, receive HIV prevention counseling, or be linked to HIV care services. Clinician stigma towards these groups remains a potent and persistent driver of these HIV disparities in many places of the world. The investigators propose to incorporate evidence-based stigma reduction tools into a popular teletraining platform for clinicians and pilot test the resulting intervention (Project ECHO® for HIV Prevention and Stigma Reduction) with clinicians in Malaysia, a context wherein clinician stigma and HIV disparities are substantial.
Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a common neurological complication in people with human immunodeficiency virus (PHIV) with no Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment. Medications commonly used to treat HIV-related PN are not effective and have many side effects. HIV-related PN symptoms may be alleviated or treated with therapeutic Chinese foot massage (TCFM), a non-invasive, relatively safe, non-pharmacological intervention.
