Filter by:The goal of this observational study is to learn about sensory loss in hospital patients with delirium. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Are hearing and vision loss related to increased risk of having delirium? - Do hearing and vision loss contribute to more severe delirium? - Do sensory loss and/or delirium affect patient satisfaction with hospital care? Participants will be asked to: - answer delirium screening questions, - undergo hearing & vision screenings, and - complete questionnaires about the hospital stay. The second part of this study is a clinical trial. Researchers will compare different hospital units to see if changing communication affects the number of patients with delirium. The main questions it aims to answer are: • Does sharing information about communication and/or providing hearing devices change the number of hospital patients with delirium? Participants in the study will be asked to complete delirium screenings and answer questions about their hearing and communication.
The goal of this clinical investigation is to obtain feedback on Lyric4 device updates within a cohort of experienced adult Lyric hearing instrument users. The main question it aims to answer is: • Do device updates cause a change in Lyric patient experience? Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires about their past experience with Lyric, as well as their experience with Lyric during the study period. They will also be asked to undergo aided audiometric testing with Lyric devices.
This study was based on a concurrent newborn genetic and hearing screening program in Nantong city. From January 2016 to December 2020, newborn infants were recruited and received combined screening for free, funded in part by the municipal government and research project foundations. The population-based longitudinal databank for all children with hearing loss in Nantong city commenced in January 2016 and maintained indefinite recruitment and ongoing follow-up.
The HEAR-study pilots and evaluates a national, low-threshold screening program to detect hearing problems in Swiss adult childhood cancer survivors. Participants will conduct a hearing test in a local hearing aid shop and report about their experiences at the shop in questionnaires and interviews. The screening program will be evaluated using the RE-AIM framework.

In this study, patients with aged-related hearing loss with depression and without depression were evaluated by audiometry (pure tone audiometry and speech audiometry), cognitive function assessment (MMSE scale for simple mental state test, MoCA Scale for Montreal Cognitive Assessment), and depressive symptoms assessment (GDS-15 and HAMD), resting state EEG. The ananlysis of resting state EEG included power spectral density, traceability analysis, functional connectivity, microstate, clustering coefficient, characteristic path length, characteristic path permeability, and compatibility coefficient. EEG signals were used to explore the activation of brain regions and poor connectivity of brain regions affected by cognitive reserve dissonance on the level of brain imaging. This paper innovatively explores the influence of cognitive reserve dissonance on depressive mood in senile deafness by means of audiological assessment, cognitive function assessment, depression symptom assessment, resting state electroencephalography (EEG) and other technical means. Auditory and cognitive cortical activation, functional connectivity of brain regions, small-world attributes and microstates were analyzed in senile deafness with or without depression at the brain imaging level.
Hearing impairment affects the ability to communicate, which can adversely affect both mental and physical health. The most common used rehabilitation method in hearing impairment is hearing aid fitting. Even with optimally fitted hearing aids, many struggle to hear in situations with difficult listening conditions. Active Communication Education (ACE) is an interactive group rehabilitation programme aiming to help those with hearing loss communicate more effectively using communication strategies to cope better in everyday life. An Individualised Active Communication Education (I-ACE) distributed digitally could enable those unable to get to the hearing care facility, or don't want to join the group sessions to benefit from the programme. This project aims to investigate the effects of the swedish digital version of the I-ACE in first time hearing aid users.
New discoveries for hearing loss intervention are often impeded by the proprietary nature of commercial hearing aids and their use in scientific research as "black boxes". An open-source speech platform (OSP) was developed to bridge the gap between audiology research and commercial hearing aid features, to promote innovative solutions to meet the needs of the hearing loss community. The OSP can replicate functions found in commercial hearing aids, and provides tools to researchers to access those functions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate portable and cloud-based platforms of the OSP that will enable a wide range of lab and field applications. All human subjects-related activities will be conducted at Northwestern University (single-site study).
A single center study evaluating the performance of an externally worn sound processor for a transcutaneous bone anchored hearing system using audiological outcomes measures such as aided thresholds and self-evaluation questionnaires.
The specific aims of the research study are: 1. Compare single-task gait parameters between individuals with hearing loss (HL) and age and education matched controls with normal hearing [normal vs moderate-profound hearing loss (N=23 for each group)]. For that we will compare the primary outcome measure, gait speed, between the groups while participants are walking at a comfortable speed for 1 minute. 2. Compare cognitive function between individuals with HL and age and education matched controls. For that we will compare the Neurocognitive Index, derived from a cognitive assessment between groups. 3. Compare the effect of a cognitive task while walking on gait parameters between people with HL and age education matched controls with normal hearing. For that we will compare the primary outcome measure, gait speed, between groups while participants are walking at a comfortable speed and counting backwards [serial subtraction of 3] for 1 minute. 4. Explore whether cognitive performance (i.e., the Neurocognitive Index) is correlated with Dual task cost (DTC), a deterioration of gait speed while walking and performing concurrent cognitive task [serial subtraction of 3]. The formula to calculate this is the following: DTC = 100 X [(DT - single task)/ single task].
