Filter by:This is a cross-sectional cohort study which aims to compare the invasive and non-invasive assessments on aortic blood pressure and cardiac funtion in subjects without history of cardio-vascular disease. Left ventricular (LV) filling pressure, LV volume, and aortic blood pressure will be measured invasively. Non-invasive assessment includes echocardiography, aortic, and carotid blood pressure measurement.
Previous studies have suggested that consumers who can choose what to eat could find food more pleasant, and consume more of that food, than when in absence of choice. However cognitive mechanisms that could explain the effect of choice have not been investigated. The study consists in a fMRI experiment intended to observe the effect of the presence of choice on brain activity following consumption of a fruit-flavored drink, compared to the brain activity when the same drink is consumed without choice. It is suggested that consumers will appreciate drinks they chose better, and that the activity in gustatory and reward regions will change accordingly to changes in declared food pleasure.
Introduction: Recent studies have shown positive results from the application of phototherapy for the improvement of performance and acceleration of the recovery process both in the application before and after exercise. However, the effects of phototherapy during combined training and after a primary adaptation process remain unclear. Research objectives: The primary objective of the study is to analyze and compare the effects of phototherapy using different light sources (laser and light emmiting diode - LED) interacting with combined training on clinical, functional, and psychological outcomes and vascular endothelial growth factor. The secondary objective is to compare the benefits provided by phototherapy in participants with different levels of training adaptation. Design: A controlled trial, double-blind, placebo-controlled will be conducted with stratified randomization and concealed allocation. Participants and Setting: After fulfilling the eligibility criteria, forty-five male participants will participate in the study. Procedure: In phase 1, the participants will perform six-weeks of combined training (sprints and squats). In phase 2, participants will be allocated, through stratified randomization (based on adaptation capacity to training), into three groups: active phototherapy group (AG), placebo phototherapy group (PG), and control group (CG). A new six-week training period will then start. In this phase the participants will carry out training normally with the adjusted loads and between sprints and squats will receive the recovery strategy related to the group to which they belong. Intervention: Active and placebo phototherapy will be applied by a trained therapist, between sprints and squats. During the period of recovery strategies for the AG and PG, the CG participants will remain seated for passive recovery, supervised by an independent therapist. Measurements: The measurements include clinical, functional, and psychological outcomes and vascular endothelial growth factor.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of a 10 weeks SODB® supplementation in physical condition improvements of healthy subjects, in comparison to a placebo.
Balance disorders are sometimes treated with exercises performed on unbalanced surfaces. The "BOBO" system allows connection of a standing platform attached to any of these surfaces, to a screen, where the user can control games with his or her body movements. In this study, the lower limb muscle activity of healthy individuals will be monitored during different games in order to assert the the ability of each game in strengthening certain muscle groups.
The study evaluates the gene-environment interaction of the COMT-genotype on the effects of the phytocannabinoids delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabidiol or a combination of both on induction of psychotic symptoms, endocannabinoid levels in human body fluids, neuronal processing, and neural oscillations. In addition the effects of the phytocannabinoids on lipid levels in serum and cerebrospinal fluid, cognition, neuronal processing assessed by fMRI as well as D2-receptor availability assessed by [18F] desmethoxyfallypride.
Evaluation of PREPL activity in healthy controls and known or possible PREPL deficient patients
A randomized, open-label, single dosing, two-way crossover clinical trial to compare the safety/tolerability and pharmacokinetics of the combination of Cilnidipine 10mg and Valsartan 160mg in comparison to each component coadministered in healthy male volunteers.
The goal of this study is to evaluate the actual potential for in vivo pineapple juice inhibition with CYP2C9 substrates in human volunteers with use of diclofenac as a marker of CYP2C9 activity.
Study Rationale: As epidemiological research has shown negative effects of high egg consumption on increased all-cause mortality and diabetes and on diabetes outcomes, and egg modification may modulate their effects on diseases risks, it is important to test the effect of eggs with different composition on markers associated with dyslipidemia, dysglycemia and inflammation. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of n-3PUFA (Omega 3) fortified egg compared to omega-6 Israeli regular egg on metabolic, inflammation and other physiologic parameters.
