Filter by:This randomized controlled trial aims to study how a high intake of a fibre-rich bread affects the composition and functioning of the gut microbiota in healthy subjects, and how this, in turn, impacts on the release of gut peptides, intestinal permeability, stress and cognitive performance.
Purpose: The overall purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of a suite of environmentally focused nudges on the nutritional quality of consumers' food selections. Participants: ~2,000 US adults ages 18-25, at least 25% currently enrolled full-time in college, recruited from CloudResearch Prime Panels. Procedures: Participants will be randomly assigned to view food products with or without environmental nudges (eco-labels, peer comparison message, and swaps). They will be asked to select items that they most wish to purchase and will then be asked a series of questions about the products and nudges. Questions will also include standard socio-demographic variables.
Canada passed mandatory front-of-package labelling (FOPL) regulations where pre-packaged food and beverage products that are high in sugar, saturated fat, and/or sodium are required to display a 'high-in' front-of-pack nutrition symbol (NS). FOPL is an effective tool to inform consumers about products that can harm health and help guide their purchasing decisions. However, as the regulations are limited to the pre-packaged food supply and do not apply to restaurants and other food services, little is known about the potential impact of the NS in such settings. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to investigate the impact of the Canadian FOPL (i.e. the 'high-in' NS) as delivered through a mobile health (mHealth) app in a setting currently not subject to regulations. The study will take place on a post-secondary campus (University of Toronto) hosting students, a population vulnerable to poor dietary choices, nutritional knowledge, and associated weight gain. A 2-week long, randomized controlled trial with a 3-parallel arm study design will be conducted to explore the effect of the 'high-in' NS on students' purchasing behaviours and nutritional knowledge. Eligible participants will be randomly allocated into one of 3 intervention groups: no App control; App control with no NS; App with NS. Questionnaires will be used to assess nutritional knowledge, and receipts will be used to analyze purchasing behaviour.
The aim of this online study is the evaluation of planetary health behaviors in relation to levels of eco-anxiety, general well-being, and levels of loneliness. As climate change progresses at a dangerous rate, it is important to establish and maintain lifestyles that are productive, fulfilling, environmentally conscious, and low in anxiety. Through a better understanding of the interconnected nature of planetary health behaviors with other aspects of healthy living and perception of social isolation, this study will add to current state of science to help inform the creation of interventions promoting sustainable, healthy, happy living among the general public and specific subgroups.

This is an interventional, open-label, single-group, bioavailability and satiety postprandial crossover study. The aim of the study is to evaluate the bioavailability of active compounds of a beverage prepared with Cretan carob powder, as well as the subjective and objective satiety in healthy individuals after its consumption.
Young children rely on their foods and drinks for the nutrients they need to grow, like energy, protein, vitamins, and minerals. In addition to nutrients, there are substances in fruits, vegetables, milk and formula, called phytochemicals, that can support health. While researchers know more about the role of phytochemicals in adult health, researchers know surprisingly little about how phytochemicals can support health in young children. One group of phytochemicals are called the carotenoids. Carotenoids are responsible for the red, orange, and yellow colors in some fruits and vegetables. In adults, carotenoids can support visual function. Researchers also know that measuring levels of carotenoids in the blood or optically in the skin, can serve as an indirect measurement of what child and adults eat. The purpose of this study is to determine how a child's usual intake of carotenoids is related to their visual development and their blood and skin levels of carotenoids. The study involves 6 visits. For each visit, we will ask about the child's recent diet, will measure their body size, collect a blood sample, collect optical measurements of their skin, and will test how sharp their vision is.
The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the impact of price decreases based on energy content in a full-service restaurant on immediate dietary consumption (in terms of kilocalories (kcals), sugar, fat, and salt intake) and dietary consumption the rest of the day following the intervention; and whether the intervention effects differ based on socioeconomic position (SEP). Participants will be asked to visit the restaurant twice. At visit 1, participants will receive a control study menu with the existing pricing structure of the restaurant. At visit 2, participants will receive the same study menu with the pricing intervention introduced. For comparative purposes a smaller subgroup of participants will receive the control menu at both visit 1 and 2 to allow the researchers to estimate whether any pre-post changes occur in the absence of a pricing intervention (and whether change differs by SEP).
This study will compare the algae oil fortified soymilk to a commercial algae oil capsule containing the same base oil with the goal of demonstrating equivalent or greater accumulation of EPA and DHA in blood lipid pools.
Breastfeeding is the healthiest form of nutrition for the baby and is recommended to use exclusive breastfeeding (EB) until 6 months. The environmental footprint of artificial lactation (AL) has been studied, but that of EB is unknown. Objectives: The main objective of the first phase of the study is to identify the environmental impact in terms of the carbon footprint of breastfeeding and artificial breastfeeding, taking into account the accessories necessary for breastfeeding and of the diet and the factors associated with the diet of postpartum women in first month of life of the babies. The main objective of the second phase is to evaluate the impact of a standardized intervention of educational programme on sustainable breastfeeding, diet and environment protection, providing inputs obtained from the first phase on the carbon footprint in the first month of life of the child and the prevalence of breastfeeding at the first month of the baby's life.
