Filter by:This is a community-based prospective study and the research object is breast cancer patients. It is planned to take the community as the unit to inform and collect the breast cancer patients who voluntarily participate to carry out the detection of BRCA1, BRCA2, PTEN, CHEK2 and PALB2 genes through the community health service center.
Case control on thyroid cancer occuring in a cohort of 7300 subjects treated during their childhood, mostly by radiotherapy, for a skin Angioma at Gustave Roussy, Villejuif France between 1947 and 1973. This case control study, which is included in a larger european project, aims to investigate the DNA variant interacting with the risk of radiation induced thyroid cancer after irradiation. The sutdy is planed to include about 30 cases and 30 controls. Matching criteria are date of birth, gender, and age at irradiation.
This will be a population based study looking at the prevalence of thyroid disorders in Malaysia (including hypo- and hyperthyroidism, subclinical hypo- or hyperthyroidism) and its association with different ethnicity and iodine status. The study will also look at genetic susceptibility for autoimmune thyroid disorders in the Malaysian population General hypotheses: The prevalence of thyroid disorders in Malaysia is 10% for hypothyroidism and 2% for hyperthyroidism Hypo- and hyperthyroidism is associated with iodine status in our population There are different susceptibility gene for autoimmune thyroid disorder in different ethnicity in our population
The research plan proposes translational studies in relevant animal models and human subjects in order to identify host (genetic) susceptibility factors that confer vulnerability to the prototypal air pollutant, ozone. The results will have significant impact upon, and aid in, understanding mechanisms regulating pro-oxidant lung injury, production and secretion of airway mucins, and clearance of respiratory mucus, and adverse health effects, that occur during and following exposure to airborne respiratory irritants.
