Filter by:This study investigates the effect of blood flow restriction with resistance exercise on functional mobility in pre-frail older adults. It is hypothesized that receiving resistance exercise with blood flow restriction will exhibit better improvement on functional mobility than only receiving resistance exercise in pre-frail older adults.
The aging of population lead to study ways to prevent dependence. Frailty is a precursor to dependence which can be reversible. In the literature, estimate of prevalence of frailty is highly variable depending on the frailty definition, the population studied and the screan tool used. In fact, many scales to measure frailty have emerged without gold standard. The SEGAm showed its usefulness in aged patients living at home.
Frailty and sarcopenia are two age-related syndromes which can result in adverse health-related events. The combination of both is more predictive of mortality than either condition alone. These conditions can be reversed through an early detection and appropriate interventions. Nevertheless, scientific community highlights the lack of cheap, portable, rapid and easy-to-use tools for detecting frailty and sarcopenia in combination. The aim of this study is to validate an iPhone App to detect frailty and sarcopenia syndromes in community dwelling older adults. This is a protocol study of a retrospective diagnostic test accuracy study which will include at least 400 participants older than 60 years recruited from elderly social centers of Murcia city. Researchers will recollect data of health status, dependency, cognitive status, and functional capacity of the participants. The index test will consist in the measurement of muscle power exerted during a single Sit-to-stand through an App (iPhone), combined with calf and mid-upper arm circumference. The reference standard will be frailty syndrome and sarcopenia assessed according to Fried's phenotype and to the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2 (EWGSOP2) (2019) recommendations, respectively. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive values, and area under the curve will be reported.
This study will find a correlation Between Berg Balance scale, Time up and Go and Dynamic Gait Index Scale in community Dwelling Ambulatory Elderly. It will be comparative cross sectional survey that will be evaluate which scale is best one for quick screening of elderly. This study will be completed within the time duration of 6 month. Convenient sampling technique will be used to collect the data. 125 sample size will be taken, in this study to find the correlation between Berg Balance scales. Time up and Go and Dynamic Gait index scale in community dwelling ambulatory elderly. In this study all subjects perform Mini-mental state examination test to meet the inclusion criteria of the study it will be above than 25 than all subjects perform Berg Balance test, Time up and Go test and Dynamic Gait Index test then interpret their values to find the best one scale for screening of elderly. . In this study subjects included will be living independently in the community and also those who walk without any aid. Those subjects who are diagnosed with neuromuscular condition, cardiorespiratory condition, cognitive impairment and having uncorrected auditory and visual deficit will be excluded from this study. In this study we will check the static, proactive part of the dynamic balance, their gait impairments and also the risk of fall of elder population. Pearson correlation Data will be analyzed on SPSS 25.
In Reunion Island, people encounter environmental and social conditions leading to premature ageing and subsequent frailty. The study evaluates tools, supported by the latest scientific advances in "machine learning" to detect, identify and measure frailty in order to give health professionals the means to act early through preventive actions.
To compare the effects of Circuit training and aerobic exercise on cardiopulmonary fitness among Sedentary elderly population
There is a need for a culturally adapted screening tool to aid health care professionals or clinicians screen for the presence of fall and balance issues associated with injuries in saraiki population. Furthermore, while culturally adapting the scale is necessary, it is important that changes do not alter the original intent, which requires it to be broad, comprehensible and applicable to the entire population. As saraiki language is the most-used language in the South Punjab, translating and adapting the ABC scale to the saraiki population while accounting for its sociocultural characteristics is an important task. So, I decided to conduct a tool translation and validation study. This study will help the clinicians to assess their patient's confidence and balance easily through the saraiki version of ABC scale in saraiki population and hence will help in timely management of the balance.
Axial Spondyloarthritis is an inflammatory arthritis disease and its main symptoms are chronic pain and stiffness, causing structural damage to the spinal vertebrae. Axial Spondyloarthritis leads to physical disability and a decrease in the level of physical activity. Frailty is a syndrome characterized by decline in physiological reserve and loss of muscle strength. Frailty can lead to vulnerability of individuals to possible injuries and a decrease in independence, and ultimately an increase in mortality. Although frailty is associated with older adults, it has been reported that it can be detected in patients with cancer, diabetes and rheumatological diseases and it is not related with age. Frailty has been reported to be a reversible and a treatable condition. The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence of frailty and the relationship between frailty and disease activity, physical functional level, quality of life and other associated factors in individuals with Axial Spondyloarthritis.
ED PLUS Emergency Department Discharge Physiotherapy Led Community Service is a pilot feasibility randomized controlled trial investigating the role of an integrated care intervention consisting of comprehensive geriatrics assessment in older adults in the emergency department and a physiotherapy-led community based intervention.
Exercise in general and resistance training (RT) in particular have demonstrated positive effects on frailty outcomes, including physical functioning. However, frail older people with functional impairments are among the least physically active and have problems reaching high-intensity levels. Whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) allows the simultaneous innervation of all large muscle groups by external electrical stimulation, inducing a high-intensity RT at a low subjective effort level. The efficacy of WB-EMS in frail older people has yet to be determined. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy of WB-EMS in frail older people.
