Filter by:A 2-arm randomised control trial (with and without labels) will be conducted to test the effects of an environmental label on food choices in a virtual supermarket. A sample of 130 participants will take part in two shopping tasks: 1/ selection of 3 products to prepare a home-made dish, and 2/ selection of a ready-to-eat dish. These two tasks will be repeated for two scenarios: 1/ participants will be asked to select the foods for usual meals, and 2/ participants will be asked to select the foods for environmentally-friendly meals. This experimental design will allow to compare food choices in the presence vs. the absence of an environmental label and to investigate whether the label is informative and likely to help individuals to choose more environmental-friendly food options when explicitly asked to do so.
This study will examine the effectiveness of a structural intervention (baseline proportion of lower energy ready meals vs increased proportion of lower energy ready meals) on calories (kcal) ordered and consumed. The study will use a within-subjects design, meaning all participants will be exposed to both conditions (baseline vs increased lower energy meal menus). The procedure will involve participants placing orders for supermarket ready meals, which are then delivered to their homes for their consumption. This study will also investigate whether the effectiveness of the intervention varies, depending on socioeconomic position (SEP). The primary hypothesis is that increasing proportion of lower energy options will decrease total kcal ordered and consumed, and that there will be no difference between higher and lower SEP. To address the limited evidence on longer term impacts of dietary interventions on daily energy intake, the present study will also examine post-meal energy consumption up to midnight on the following day. Finally, this study will explore the psychological processes that might underlie the effectiveness of the intervention among individuals with higher and lower SEP; namely, food choice motives, satiety responsiveness, plate clearing tendencies, and food waste concerns.
Bariatric surgery (BS) has a history of new procedures and techniques arising and then disappearing due to problems and complications. The present is no different with new and old procedures changing with the regularity of night following day. One of the important questions today in BS is the length and or need/value of the Biliopancreatic limb bypass (BPLL.) The Sleeve and the Band have "0" bypass, the RNY has a "short" bypass and the Biliopancreatic Diversion type procedures have a "long" (distal) bypass. The Mini-Gastric Bypass Original Technique (MGB-OT) version of the One Anastomosis Bypass (OAGB) includes a "medium" length of bypass, longer than the BPLL of the RNY and shorter than the the "Long" BPL of the BPD procedures. In addition, uniquely, the MGB-OT includes a "Tailored" BPLL. Not all OAGB surgeons use this approach and several have argued in favor of a "Fixed" BPLL of 150 cm. This paper is part of a series of studies of the "Tailored" BPLL specifically in MGB-OT patients. Notably it demonstrates in an online survey that patient reported weight loss and food choices change after MGB-OT and in addition the changes are related to the "Tailored" BPLL
Participants will take part in an online survey. They will be asked to choose the amount of food they would like to eat based on pictures of 18 dishes sequentially displayed on the screen. They will be randomly allocated to four different groups: kcal labelling, PACE labelling (Physical Activity Calorie Equivalent: minutes to walk to burn off the calories), kcal and PACE labelling combined, no labelling, in a between subject design. The main outcome variable is the total "self-served" energy for each dish (in kcal).
This study will be a 2x2 randomised controlled trial with information-based intervention (no labelling / labelling) and structural intervention (default proportion / increased proportion of lower energy density food items) as between-subject factors and energy density (kcal/g) of food purchases during an online supermarket-shopping task as dependent variable. This study will use an online supermarket platform developed to mimic an online supermarket website and participants will be asked to complete a shopping task using a pre-determined shopping list of 10 items.
Two randomized control trials examining human food choice (i.e. selection of high energy 'unhealthy' foods vs. selection of healthier foods). Interventions: In a between-subjects design, participants (recruitment stratified by socioeconomic position) made food choices (main dish, plus optional sides and desserts) in the absence vs. presence of menu energy labelling and from menus with baseline (10%) vs. increased availability (50%) of lower energy main dishes. Main outcome measures: Average energy content (kcal) of main dish chosen and average total energy content of all food ordered, including optional sides and desserts.
The ONCOFOOD project aims to design and develop new innovative food solutions for cancer patients, taking into account not only their nutritional requirements but also their sensory changes, promoting eating pleasure and preventing malnutrition. Research involving cancer patients but also their families and health care professionals is a key element of this approach to ensure the success of the developed products for the target group.
Unhealthy eating habits are a social challenge in this century, regarding that children usually refuse to eat and taste fruits and vegetables. The Dastatuz project aims to study children food neophobia (the term used referring the reluctance to taste new foods) and fruit and vegetables acceptance. It pretends to tackle the issue from an early stage: pregnancy, lactation and complementary feeding. In this sense, the Project aspires to assess the possible impact of maternal diet and complementary feeding on young children eating behaviour until 18 months of age. In addition, it intends to study the effect that the type of complementary feeding (spoon-fed or baby-led) might have on that eating behaviour. Considering these objectives, a quasi-experimental, multicenter, controlled and prospective intervention study is proposed. If it proved to be effective, this experience would have a high potential to be transferred and would open the possibility to give way to future public programs or guidelines, as a basic and easy solution to achieve higher fruit and vegetable intake among children and, consequently, the potential health benefits this may bring. Besides, taking into consideration the above mentioned ideas, the investigators hypothesized that a high intake and variety of fruit and vegetables (FV) during pregnancy and breastfeeding will lead to distinctive sensorial experiences for the baby, different from those of the babies whose mothers following a "standard diet" (as described in the National Nutrition Surveys). This consumption profile will promote the acceptance of fruits and vegetables along complementary feeding. Additionally, a correct baby-led weaning (BLW) may also contribute to establish these healthy eating habits.
This study is a pilot evaluation of the Healthy Pantry Program, a new behavioral economics-based training that allows pantry staff to learn how to implement nudges integrating traffic-light nutrition labeling and a healthy recipe database in the pantry environment. The hypothesis is that participation the Healthy Pantry Program will lead to increases in pantry purchases of healthy foods.
Food insecurity is associated with an increased risk of obesity. The availability of a default option (i.e., option a consumer selects if no active choice is made) has been shown to effectively nudge consumer behavior. An online default option (i.e., prefilled grocery shopping cart) was previously shown to positively impact the food purchases of individuals with food insecurity.The present study aims to extend these findings bye examining efficacy of an online default option in enhancing the nutritional quality of online grocery purchases in individuals with food insecurity over the course of a month.
