Examining the Effect of Occupational Therapy-Based Parent Coaching on Feeding Problems in Children With a Preterm Birth

Feeding problems are common in children with a history of premature birth, and these problems continue into early childhood. Feeding problems are affected by many biopsychosocial factors, and the context in which feeding takes place and the attitudes and behaviors of parents can also be effective in the emergence or continuation of these problems. The aim of our study is to evaluate the effects of occupational therapy-based parent coaching intervention on mothers and their children, who are considered to be primarily responsible for the feeding of children in our country. 46 mothers with premature children will be included in our study and participants will be randomly assigned to intervention/control groups. Mothers will fill out a sociodemographic information form, Behavioral Pediatric Feeding Assessment Scale, Sensory Profile Questionnaire - Oral Sensory Processing Subtest, Family Feeding Strategies Scale and Parental Self-Efficacy Scale via Google forms. Mothers in the research group will be given online occupational therapy-based parent coaching training for 10 weeks. Second evaluations will be carried out after the training; Final evaluations will be applied after 1 month of follow-up.

A FOUR SESSION ONLINE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY GROUP TRANINIG FOR MOTHERS OF CHILDREN WITH FEEDING PROBLEMS

Feeding problems such as selective eating, loss of appetite, and mealtime behavior problems are common in childhood. Parents play a primary role in learning about feeding, and difficulties experienced in this process may cause the parent to experience stress, despair and exhibit incorrect attitudes. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of online occupational therapy group training for mothers on mothers' attitudes and stress levels, and children's eating behaviors. Mothers of children aged 3-6 years with feeding problems (n=29) were randomly divided into groups. Early Childhood Adaptive Eating Behavior Scale, Feeding Process Mother Attitudes Scale and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory scales were used for evaluation. The mothers in the research group participated in the 4-week training. As a result of the research, positive effects were found on mothers' attitudes and children's eating behaviors (p<0.05). There was no change in mothers' state and trait anxiety levels (p>0.05). This study shows that online group training to mothers can support existing therapies and guides clinicians working in the field.

Mothers' Breast Milk Expression Experiences, Infant Feeding Attitudes and Perceived Social Support Levels

Background: Expressing breast milk in cases where breastfeeding is interrupted is important for infants to be fed breast milk however, many factors can affect mothers' breastfeeding experience, such as feeding attitudes and the level of social support. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship mothers' breast milk expression experience between infant feeding attitudes and perceived social support level. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in the postpartum and lactation unit of a city hospital in Istanbul, between September-November 2022. The study included 455 women who were volunteering to participate in the research, 18 years of age or older, in the 0-6 months postpartum period, having a living baby, continuing to breastfeed, and expressing breast milk at least once after birth. Data were collected with Mother-Baby Introductory Information Form, Breast Milk Expression Experience Measure (BMEE), Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS), and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The data were analyzed using the SPSS-21 statistical software package. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Which characteristics affect mothers' breast milk expression experiences, infant feeding attitudes, and perceived social support levels in the early postpartum period? - Is there a relationship between mothers' experiences of breast milk expression and their infant feeding attitudes and social support levels in the early postpartum period?

The Effect of Interaction-Based Early Education Program Applied to Grandparents on the Grandchildren's Health

In our study, "Does the early childhood intervention applied to grandparents as caregivers affect the child's growth, development (cognitive and socio-emotional development), and nutrition? Does early childhood intervention apply to grandparents as caregivers have an impact on caregiving characteristics, grandparent's health, attachment, parenting role, psychosocial well-being, role satisfaction, and communication with the child? Is early childhood intervention applied to grandparents as caregivers effective in creating a common language between grandparents and mothers on child care issues?" the answers to these questions will be tried to be answered. This randomized controlled study will be conducted between July 2023 and July 2024 with children aged 0-4 years and their parents/grandparents using a mixed methodology. Children between the ages of 0-4 will be included in the study group, and those who are only cared for by their grandparents will be included in the study group, and cared for by their parents will be included in the control group. The study will consist of 2 stages. The first phase will be conducted with a pilot study group to establish the training program. After the 5-session program is administered, a qualitative analysis will be made and the program will be finalized according to the feedback. In the second stage of the study, a pre-test will be done through questionnaires, and then a training program will be applied to the group with grandparents as caregivers. The post-test will be applied to each group 6-8 weeks after the 5-group session ends. Pre-test and post-tests will be created in the online Google survey format. Pre-tests will only be applied to grandparents and mothers. Post-tests will be carried out at 4 practice times (after 6-8 weeks, 6th, 9th, and 12th months after the end of the intervention) determined for the evaluation of both parental and childhood outcomes. The second qualitative analysis will be made in a group format with the grandparents who applied for the program and the mothers (parents) of those children. For the qualitative analysis, the pre-created semi-structured interview format will be used after obtaining the consent of the participants, and if they give their consent, a voice recording will be taken. Fathers will also be informed and encouraged to participate and will be included in the qualitative phase of the study if they give consent for participation.
