Safety and Efficacy of Electronic Stimulation for Circumferential Reduction and Muscle Toning

Open-label, baseline-controlled, multi-center study evaluating an electrical muscle stimulation system for circumferential reduction and muscle toning. The study will enroll up to 100 subjects desiring circumferential reduction and muscle toning. Each subject will receive up to 12 bi-weekly treatments over a 6-week period. Follow Up Visits planned for 2, 30- and 90-days post treatment. Measurement outcomes will be compared to baseline.

Fluorescence Angiography in the Assessment of DIEP Flap Perfusion

It is a single-center, prospective, randomized and controlled study focused in microsurgical autologous breast reconstruction. It involves applying indocyanine green (ICG) angiography for the study of the vascularization of DIEP flaps. The aim of the study is to determine whether there are differences in complications and aesthetic results when ICG is used to discard the poorly vascularized areas of the flap. The study includes adult women undergoing unilateral DIEP flap breast reconstruction. The calculated sample size is 60 patients. There are two groups. In group 1, the investigators use the usual clinical criteria to discard the poorly vascularized areas of the flap. In group 2, the investigators use the ICG to shape the flap.

Epipericardial Fat Necrosis: A Misdiagnosed Condition

Epipericardial fat necrosis is a benign and self-limited condition that mainly curses with acute pleuritic chest pain and therefore must be an important differential diagnosis for patients in emergency department (ED). The knowledge of characteristics symptoms and correct management may avoid misdiagnosis or mistakes with other severe conditions like pulmonary embolism, pericarditis or acute coronary disease. Despite the importance of this entity, only fewer than 40 cases have been reported since 1957, when the condition was first described. We have seen a couple of similar cases in our institution during a short period of time, and we suspect that these numbers doesn`t mean the real prevalence of epipericardial fat necrosis, so maybe this condition could be underdiagnosed. Instead, there isn't a study that tried to estimate an incidence of this entity.
