Filter by:Nasotracheal intubation is one of the anesthetic procedures required for oral surgery. It allows the surgeon easier access to the surgical site than the orthotracheal intubation. Therefore, nosotracheal intubation is commonly used for general anesthesia for oral and maxillofacial surgery and dental treatment. However, nasotracheal intubation can damage the nasal mucosa in the course of the tube passing through the nostrils, causing epistaxis which is reported as the most common side effect. In order to reduce these side effects, heating of the tube and use of a tube lubricant immediately before intubation have been recommended in children. However, research on whether the dry state of the mucosa itself contributes to the development of epistaxis is limited. A study in adults reported that pretreatment of the ointment on the mucosa reduced the damage to the mucosa. However, its effect on the incidence of epistaxis in children has not been studied. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of pretreatment of nasal ointment on epistaxis of nasotracheal intubation in children.
The endoscope is a device placed into the nasal cavity to remove chronic sinus disease or tumor or create access into the skullbase for extensive tumor removal. Indocyanine Green (ICG) is a dye that is injected through an intravenous site and is used to light up vasculature and margins of a tumor during surgery. This helps avoid damage to important vasculature and obtain clear margins during surgery. This study aims to further assess the utility of ICG when operating within the nasal cavity or skullbase.
The Investigators aimed to assess primarily whether or not Hilotherapy masks are a tolerable treatment for the conservative management of epistaxis and nasal fractures.
To compare the result of verbally educating the parents about method of intranasal antiseptic cream application versus practically educating and demonstrating how to apply cream intra nasally.
The purpose of this research study is to determine whether Doxycycline can be used to control nosebleeds (epistaxis) for patients with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT). Patients with HHT will be randomized to one of 2 study arms: Doxycycline or Placebo for a period of 2 months followed by a 1-month washout period before switching treatments for a further 2 months period. Observation and evaluation will continue for a period of one month after treatment is completed.
Rhinoscope is useful to exam intranasal structure. This information could be utilized to select more suitable nose for nasotracheal intubation. Nastoracheal intubation using more patent nose could be associated with decrease of the development of epistaxis which is most common complication in nasotracheal intubation.
