NCT ID: NCT03990337 Recruiting - General Anesthesia Clinical Trials

Ultrasound-guided Identification of Cricoid Cartilage in Cricoid Pressure

Start date: July 30, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is aimed to provide the evidence that ultrasound-guided identification of the cricoid cartilage can improve effectiveness of cricoid pressure. Ultrasound (US) is well recognized as a technique for identifying the neck landmarks including the cricoid cartilage. Based on the potential results that may show that US could be a tool for improve the effectiveness of cricoid pressure, the investigators expect to disseminate this knowledge to be transformed in the standard technique for helping anesthesiologists and nurses to do pressure in the correct location. It is expected that the greatest impact of this study will lead to improved patient outcomes and safety, particularly in the ones with high-risk for aspiration.

NCT ID: NCT03106974 Recruiting - Obesity Clinical Trials

A Comparison of Tracheal Intubation Using the Totaltrack vs the Macintosh Laryngoscope in Obese Patients

Ovesion
Start date: May 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Airway management in obese patients has to consider that mask ventilation (DMV) risk is increased and difficult tracheal intubation (DTI) risk may be increased too. In obese patients, is essential to prevent early arterial oxygen desaturation related to a reduced functional residual capacity (FRC), atelectasis formation during anesthetic induction and after tracheal intubation, because oxygenation maintenance is the cornerstone of the airway management of the obese patient. Endotracheal intubation is usually required to allow unrestricted surgical approach. The Macintosh laryngoscope is the standard method. However, sometimes this technique is ineffective and poorly tolerated by the obese patient. The Totaltrackā„¢ (MedComflow S.A., Barcelona, Spain) is a hybrid device, between a supraglottic airway and a videolaryngoscope with an anatomically shaped blade. It allows fibreoptic visualization of the larynx for tracheal intubation and was developed to aid both ventilation and tracheal intubation, at the time of anticipated and unanticipated difficult airway management. However, despite its use in clinical practice, there are no comparative studies regarding direct laryngoscopy in obese patients.

NCT ID: NCT02395419 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Endotracheal Intubation

A Comparison of Tracheal Intubation Using the Totaltrack vs the Airtraq Laryngoscope in Routine Airway Management

Start date: October 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Endotracheal intubation is usually required to allow unrestricted surgical approach. The Macintosh laryngoscope is the standard method. However in certain situations as difficult airway this technique is ineffective and poorly tolerated by the patient. Fiberoptic intubation is the gold standard in this scenario, however sometimes it is not possible due to failure or unavailability, so alternatives are needed. The TotalTrack (MedComflow SA, Barcelona, Spain) and the Airtraq (Prodol Meditec, Vizcaya, España) been designed specifically for the airway management. However, despite their use in clinical practice, there are no comparative studies.

NCT ID: NCT02295657 Recruiting - Cardiac Arrest Clinical Trials

Double Lumen Tube Intubation

DLETI
Start date: November 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study was to compare time, success rates of different double-lumen tubes in intubation in a standardized manikin model.

NCT ID: NCT01628978 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Endotracheal Intubation

Verification of Appropriate Insertion Depth of Endotracheal Tube Placement

Start date: June 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The investigators are trying to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasonographic determination of depth of endotracheal tube placement in infants and young children by using the pleural sliding sign.

NCT ID: NCT01006668 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Endotracheal Intubation

Sevoflurane Versus Propofol for Intubation in Neonatal Intensive Care

Start date: November 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Endotracheal intubation is a painful and stressful procedure, which is associated with acute increases of blood pressure, intracranial pressure, bradycardia and hypoxemia with high morbidity. The aim of the study is to compare recovery time, efficacy and tolerance in a randomized controlled study, between sevoflurane and propofol for intubation in neonates in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
