Filter by:The study seeks to gain knowledge about new and of alternative ways of organizing ostomy training based on informants' own experiences of life with a stoma. The study is designed and conducted as qualitative focus group interviews with three different groups of patients with enterostomas (5-8 in each group): a) people with permanent enterostoma due to cancer, 2) people with permanent enterostoma due to non-cancer and 3) people with a temporary ileostomy.
This randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluates the effectiveness of Questscope Non-Formal Education (QS NFE) on impacting psychosocial outcomes for out-of-school youth, ages 13-21, in Jordan. QS NFE is an empowerment-based education program. A unique agreement with the Jordanian Ministry of Education enables participating youth to receive a 10th-grade equivalent certificate upon successful completion of the 24-month non-formal education. The main components of QS NFE include retraining formal education teachers for fostering positive relationships with at-risk youth, asset-building learning and social activities, and a youth-driven learning environment. The study hypothesis is that by engaging youth in positive relationships with local teachers and enabling the youth to drive the learning experience, the intervention will have positive impacts on general self-efficacy, social supports, social skills, and strengths and difficulties.
This study will begin to develop a culturally appropriate secondary prevention intervention for young HIV+ women through focus groups. Using three intervention sites, focus groups will guide the development of the intervention's framework and content areas. An intervention will be developed/adapted through the data collected in the focus groups and review of relevant interventions. The intervention aims to address the following concerns: 1) reducing the risk of young women infected with HIV transmitting the virus to their sexual partners, and 2) preventing young women infected with HIV from re-infection with a new viral strain or co-infection with another sexually transmitted disease.
