Filter by:The study aims to measure the empathic capacity of healthcare professionals belonging to the Alessandria Hospital, by applying validated measuring instruments, before and after a specific training intervention. The secondary objective is to assess how the training initiative impacts on subjects with a different attitude towards cultural participation.
This study recruited healthy volunteers and randomly divided them into four groups. They inhaled oxytocin or saline, and watched a pain test video with photos of acquaintances or strangers, respectively, to test whether their feelings of the same thermal pain stimulus had changed.
The new professional profiles highlight the need to incorporate competences such as self-regulation, communication or growth mindset in the academia. Not only is this important for employability; a step further is needed. It's necessary to equip learners with knowledge, skills and attitudes that help them become agents of change and shape sustainable futures in our current complex society. Within the framework of an agreement signed between the University of Granada (UGR), Spain, and, one of the leading real state firms in Spain, Cívitas, a course and a parallel study have been launched that will provide research and training in these competences at a degree level. It is part of the Sustainable Human Development Training Pathway of the Vice-Rectorate for Equality, Inclusion and Sustainability. The main objective of the study is to test whether participating in a competence-based course can improve students' cognitive, emotional and personal traits as well as academic performance. Together with this main purpose, the present study also aims to compare the effects of two competence-based programs on the students' ability to improve specific aspects of cognition, emotional intelligence, creativity or academic performance among others. Both programs involve training sustained attention and an accepting and open attitude though they differ in several aspects of their methods, intention and aims. Drawing conclusions from the research and outcomes, pedagogies which are best suited to develop theses competences at the Higher Education level will be suggested. Assessment and certification of this kind of competences will also be proposed.
Empathy is a concept native to the field of medicine. However, over the course of medical school, empathy levels are expected to decline. The aim of this study was to assess the empathy levels amongst medical students in relation to their year of study and specialties of choice in the future. A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess empathy levels among students from medical colleges in Karachi, Pakistan, using an online survey. The total duration of the study was two months. The authors analyzed the data using SPSS version 20. A total of 463 undergraduate medical students participated in this survey.
To investigate the effect of the exercise program with the 'Empathy Dress' applied to midwifery students on the Levels of physical discomfort, empathy and compassionate love in the midwifery department of Amasya University. A total of 62 midwifery student are planned to be included in the study. Data will be collected with the "Student Information Form", "The Toronto Empathy Questionnaire- TEQ", "Evaluation Scale for Physical Discomfort", and "The Compassionate Love Scale". In the study, an exercise program that includes a total of eight sessions of 'Empathy Dress' and some exercises, every week and 20 minutes per week to the midwifery students in the experimental group, by the researcher. It is thought that the results of the study will improve the empathy and sensitive love levels of midwifery students and increase the quality of midwifery care offered.
It has been shown in the literature that the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder influence the quality of life of patients, in particular through the cognitive alterations they can cause. Social cognition is also itself impacted. It refers to the perception, interpretation and processing of information relating to the social environment and relationships. It is affected by the symptomatology of PTSD both in terms of the response to emotional stimuli, the perception of self and others, and the quality of intimate relationships. These elements lead to reflection on the origin of these alterations, in particular the impact of PTSD on the patient's empathy capacity, defined as the recognition and understanding of the feelings and emotions of another individual. This parameter is also little studied in the literature, only a study dating from 2010 finds a correlation between PTSD and empathy. It is in this context that the realization of a new study studying the capacity for empathy of patients with PTSD in comparison with a control group with a larger and more representative population was envisaged. The primary outcome of this study is to analyze the post-traumatic stress disorder's repercussions on empathy by passing the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) on patients in comparison with a control group. The first hypothesis is a lower total score but a higher personal distress sub-score in the PTSD population. The secondary outcomes are to describe the cofactors that can influence empathy in association or not with post-traumatic stress disorder: sociodemographic data (age, sex, education level…), traumatic event type determined through the "Inventory of Traumatogenic Events", human intervention, duration and severity of the disorder (evaluated by the Impact of Events Scale) … The number of subjects required was calculated at 19 patients and 19 controls.

The research purpose is to investigate the effectiveness of empathy training program for nurses, as well as to investigate the effectiveness of learning satisfaction for nurses and the empathy training program learning subjective experience of nurses.The quantitative method is the experimental research method using randomization. The nurses receiving the intervention of empathy training program are in the experimental group, while those who do not receive it are in the control group.
This study develop a new virtual reality course for home care workers to experience the view of dementia people with BPSD and the relative feelings. After the intervention, the experimental group would completed the several scales of attitude of care, competence of care and empathy, then the factor analysis and correlation analysis were measured. In the first stage, a single group pre and post test study was conducted to extract 10 home caregivers of dementia care from Hondao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation. In order to explore the VR course affect the attitude of care, competent of care and empathy towards the dementia people in community, and future career. In the second stage, this study use quasi experimental design. The experimental group (n=65) and the control group (n=65) each have a pre- and post-test design. The experimental group uses virtual reality courses for intervention experience, while the control group does not have intervention. After the two post-tests are completed, then provide the same immersive 3D VR experience as the experimental group. The measurement tools in this study used the Jefferson Empathy Scale (Chinese Version), The Interpersonal Reactivity Index (Chinese Version), and three self-made scales focus on dementia care attitude scale, the dementia care competency scale and the virtual reality course experience scale.
Cognitive Empathy is relevant in clinical practice and will be assessed based on the accuracy of pain recognition and the pain intensity evaluation in a computerised task using facial expressions. Repeated measures across day and night shifts will provide the basis to understand the impact of shift work on those abilities in health care professionals.
