Augmented Reality Serious Game Design for Promoting Children's Science Education Cognition

Background:The process of constructing knowledge in the context of children's science education plays a significant role in fostering the development of early scientific literacy. Nevertheless, children sometimes struggle to comprehend scientific knowledge due to the presence of abstract notions. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of augmented reality (AR) games as a teaching tool for enhancing children's understanding of optical science education. Methods: 36 healthy children between the ages of 6 and 8 years old were included in this study. Individuals were randomly divided into an intervention group (n=18) and a control group (n=18). Interventions, namely a 20-minute AR science education including three game lesson modules, while the control group was asked to learn 20-minute same knowledge with non-AR science learning app. POE (predict-observe-explain) test of 3 games including animal vision, color-light mixing and light refraction were conducted for all participants before and after the experiment. Also, intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) test including interest-enjoyment (INT-ENJ), perceived competence (COMP), effort-importance (EFF-IMP), and tension-pressure (TEN-PRESS) were conducted for children after the experiment.

The Effect of Education Provided to Nursing Students With 3D Animation on Course Interest, Motivation and Attitude

Along with traditional education methods, it is important to try different methods in order to increase interest, attitude and motivation in the lesson in accordance with the requirements of the age. Our study aimed to examine nursing students' attitudes towards the course in line with the principle of attractiveness in education. The study was conducted between March 2023 and June. The population of the research consists of second year students of Sakarya University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing. In the study, randomization determined which of the branches would be the experimental and control group. The sample of the study consisted of all volunteer students. The experimental group was completed with n:60 and the control group with n:57 students. To ensure homogeneity in the study, care was taken to include different branches in the same class. For consistency between observers, it was conducted in a course conducted by the same instructor. Data collection was conducted online. Participants answered the questions of the introductory information form, Instructional Material Motivation Scale, Course Interest Scale, and Attitude Towards Learning Scale. The post-test was administered to the control group without any intervention. The experimental group was trained and monitored with 3D animation videos every week. The data were evaluated using the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 program.

Our study was carried out to examine the attitudes of nursing students towards the course in line with the principle of attractiveness in education. In addition, the attitudes of the students were determined through deep mock videos. Method of the study: The research is planned to be conducted between March 2023 and June 2023. The population of the research consists of 4th year students of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Muş Alparslan University. In the research, the experimental and control groups were determined by randomisation. The sample of the study consisted of all volunteer students. The experimental group consisted of n:40 participants and the control group consisted of n:40 participants. In order to ensure homogeneity in the study, it was paid attention that different branches were in the same class. In order to ensure consistency between the observers, it was carried out in a course conducted by the same instructor. The study was conducted in accordance with the CONSORT diagram. Data collection was carried out online. Participants answered questions about sociodemographic characteristics and scale items. It took approximately 15 minutes for the participants to answer the questions. The posttest was administered to the control group without any intervention. The experimental group was trained and monitored with deep mock videos every week. The data were evaluated using IBM SPSS Statistics 23 programme.

The Performance of AirAngel® Videolaryngoscope

Video laryngoscopy (VL) have certain advantages over other techniques, such as better glottic imaging, higher intubation success in individuals with difficult airways, less force required for intubation, less cervical spine movement, and better image capturing overall. Some experts have recently suggested that the VL should be accepted and used as the standard technique for imaging in all emergency intubations, not just difficult intubations. However, VL is often not accessible in low-income countries because of its high costs. Additionally, hospitals may not be able to reach the devices even if they can cover the cost in cases where the demand is excessive. Three dimensional (3D) printing is the technology of producing objects in 3D from an existing or designed digital file. This rapidly developing technology is already used in many areas of daily life and has also been widely used in medical applications. 3D printers produce many expensive medical materials and devices at lower costs, enable personalized modeling (implants and prostheses), tissue cultures, and surgical planning, and can also be used as educational material. One of these applications is 3D-printed VL (3D-PVL), which has become prominent in pandemic conditions. A 3D-PVL can be obtained for only 6-30 United States dollars (USD) compared to a VL that costs thousands of US dollars. Moreover, a study comparing 3D-PVL with standard VL in difficult airway management for experienced practitioners demonstrated comparable success rates in both devices. Furthermore, the VL created by modifying a Macintosh® laryngoscope (MCL) with an endoscope camera was reported superior to the standard MCL and comparable to the standard VL in the hands of experienced users. However, the literature presented no study that evaluated the efficiency of 3D-PVLs in inexperienced practitioners. Herein, our study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of 3D-PVLs in acquiring endotracheal intubation (ETI) skills in senior medical school students who are inexperienced users and compare 3D-PVL with standard MCL and VL.
