Use lay language. Current guidelines regarding physical activity in patients with inherited arrhythmia and cardiomyopathy are mostly dedicated to adult patients, with a special focus on sports competition. Their application to the pediatric population has been scarcely evaluated. Physical activity is well known for its health benefits but may be dangerous in this population, which leads to confusion within the medical community and among patients. Actual physical activity of children with such inherited cardiac disorders is unknown. This study aimed to assess the level of physical activity in children with inherited arrhythmia and cardiomyopathy, and the adherence to the current European guidelines on the subject. Secondary objectives aimed to assess through a qualitative analysis the impact of the disease on physical activity and daily life in this population. The level of physical activity and adherence to current guidelines will be determined from interviews between the patient and the principal investigator. Each patient will be questioned in order to explore the experiences, motivations and feelings of participants regarding physical activity. The standardized questionnaire was created by the principal investigator and members of the clinical research team. The investigators believe that many children practice physical activity outside the current guidelines and hope to identify the main determinants of physical activity in this population.
This study is designed to quantify the ventricular stasis in patients with different forms of cardiomyopathy and at risk of stroke (ischemic, non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) by post-processing of 2D color Doppler echocardiography and phase contrast-magnetic resonance images in order to establish the relationship between quantitative variables of intraventricular stasis and the prevalence of silent embolic events and/or intraventricular mural thrombosis.
The Dilated Cardiomyopathy-Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (DCM-CMR) Study is an ancillary study from the parent study, DCM Precision Medicine Study. The rationale for the DCM-CMR study is to leverage cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging to detect earliest findings of DCM in the at-risk family members enrolled into the parent study.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of respiratory muscles training on cardiopulmonary parameters and quality of life in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). It was a randomized control trial conducted on the calculated sample size of 22 patients divided into 2 groups. Study was conducted at Shifa International Hospital Islamabad. Clinically stable, diagnosed cases of DCM aged 30 to 60 years were included in the study. Outcomes of study were ejection fraction, Left ventricular (LV) End systolic dimensions, LV End diastolic dimension, lung volumes and capacities and quality of life. Data was analyzed on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. .
Nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy is a heterogeneous disease often associated with increased rates of sudden cardiac death. Although many algorithms have been proposed, risk stratification remains suboptimal, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators are currently recommended only in patients with poor left ventricular function. However, most cases of sudden cardiac death occur at earlier stages, in patients with relatively preserved left ventricular function and exercise capacity, for which device-therapy is currently not indicated. Several noninvasive risk factors have been associated with increased arrhythmic risk, including clinical history (syncope), imaging (fibrosis on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and left ventricular dimensions in echocardiography) and electrocardiographic parameters (ventricular arrhythmic burden, late potentials, heart rate variability and repolarization abnormalities). The investigators hypothesized that the encouraging findings of studies assessing more sophisticated stratification-algorithms in patients with ischemic heart disease could be extrapolated in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy. Thus, combining noninvasive risk factors with programmed ventricular stimulation may risk-stratify such patients more accurately. In this regard, the prospective observational multicenter ReCONSIDER study aims to integrate several approaches to arrhythmic risk stratification in nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy in a tiered, multifactorial, approach, in which noninvasive risk factors are combined with electrophysiologic studies. This approach may pave the way for a more comprehensive risk stratification algorithm in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy, leading to more rational device-therapy, and, ultimately to lower mortality.
The aim of this project is assess a non-invasive functional liver tests in patients with the Fontan circulation that may be used for prognostic purposes. Specifically, we aim to determine whether there are alterations in Methacetin Breath Test (MBT) in the Fontan patient and if so, whether it is related to conventional tests of liver and cardiac function. The hypothesis is that MBT CPDR 20 in the Fontan patient is abnormal as a result of alterations in liver perfusion, liver cell metabolic capability and transhepatic resistance secondary to hemodynamics unique to the Fontan as well as end-organ liver damage. Due to lack of robust biomarkers or other risk stratification schemes, we aim to determine whether there is prognostic value in hepatic MBT CPDR 20 in the Fontan patient. Aims - The aims of this study are three-fold: 1. To measure MBT parameter in a cohort of patients with Congestive (Dilated) Cardiomyopathy and a group of Fontan patients and compare results to published normal controls. 2. To explore any association between MBT parameter and clinical parameters already available, including Fontan hemodynamics as assessed by either of the following tests: cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, non-invasive imaging of the liver (CT or MRI), non-invasive assessment of liver stiffness (ARFI, MRE or Fibroscan), laboratory investigations, and clinical characteristics (i.e. age of patient, time since Fontan operation, type of Fontan etc.) within 12 months of the study. 3. To determine whether MBT is predictive of clinical outcomes: heart failure, clinically significant ascites, and time to transplant or death.
