Instability in the Lumbar Spine of Patients With Age Related Changes and Narrowing of the Spinal Canal (Spinal Stenosis)

Age related changes in the lumbar spine can lead to narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis) causing leg and back pain. Spinal stenosis can be associated with a misalignment of the spine caused by forward slippage of a vertebrae over another. This instability is diagnosed using diagnostic imaging. With signs of instability the spine surgeon might choose a fusion of the vertebrae. This is a more complex procedure in relation to the simple decompression preformed without instability for spinal stenosis. The purpose of this study is to identify characteristics of instability of the lumbar spine on diagnostic imaging, and investigate associations with surgical data and patient reported outcomes from the National Spine databases from Denmark and Sweden. This will support spine surgeons in providing evidence-based surgical treatment for spinal stenosis with or without signs of instability

A Pivotal Study of the Premia Spine TOPS™ System

The purpose of this trial is to assess whether the Total Posterior Spine System (TOPS System) is more effective than transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) when used to stabilize a single lumbar level (L2 - L5) following surgical decompression in patients diagnosed with (1) at least moderate lumbar spinal stenosis, and (2) Grade 1 spondylolisthesis (or retrolisthesis), and (3) thickening of the ligamentum flavum or scarring of the facet joint capsule. Success will be assessed by means of a composite endpoint that measures improvement in in patient reported outcomes and the absence of any major device related complications.

Valeo OL Interbody Fusion Devices for Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion SNAP Trial

This study randomizes degenerative spondylolisthesis and/or degenerative disc patients into two groups: one to receive a new ceramic implant and a control group with a more traditional PEEK plastic implant. The procedure uses a single oblique cage in each group. The study will measure and compare pain and disability improvement with the two implanted devices over a period of two years. The fusion status will also be judged with plane x-rays and one CT scan.
