This study will work in Tanzania to develop and pilot test a simulation and experiential learning intervention for labor and delivery providers, in order to address HIV stigma during childbirth. The primary endpoint will be patient-rated changes in respectful maternity care, comparing women who deliver in the pre-intervention time period and women who deliver in the post-intervention period.
This study is to analyse the effect of a bundle of measures on the proportion of females being screened for cervical cancer in the Kilombero and Ulanga Antiretroviral Cohort (KIULARCO), comparing the time period before implementation (01/2017-01/2020) and after implementation (02/2020-06/2022). It is to assess the performance of two novel diagnostic tests (QuantiGene-molecular profiling histology (QG-MPH) and PT Monitor® immunoassay) and established tests (Seegene Anyplex™ II 28 HPV Test and Prevo-check®) as potential triage tests for the development of future clinical decision algorithms for CC screening.
This protocol describes a 2-arm cluster, randomized controlled trial designed to test the effectiveness of a conditional cash transfer on viral suppression at 6 months among people living with HIV infection (PLHIV) in Tanzania who have disengaged from HIV care. Randomization will take place at the clinic level (HIV primary care clinics). The comparison group receives standard of care standard of care HIV tracing services according to Tanzania's National Guidelines for the Management of HIV and the Ministry of Health to locate potential participants, including home based care (HBC) tracing of PLHIV who have disengaged from primary care, the provision of counseling to return to HIV care, and the offer to schedule an HIV primary care appointment on the spot. Eligible adult PLHIV disengaged from HIV care and living in an intervention facility catchment area will receive the same standard of care HIV tracing and clinical services as control participants, plus the opportunity to receive a one-time cash transfer incentive, conditional upon confirmed completion of a clinical visit if within 90 days of study enrollment. The primary endpoint is viral suppression (<1000 copies/ml) at 6 months after study enrollment.
The quality of caregiving and the parent-child relationship is critical for early child development (ECD) and has been shown to be modifiable. This study evaluated an ECD project in Tanzania, assessing the effectiveness of radio messaging (RM) alone and a combined radio messaging/video job aids/ECD (RMV-ECD) intervention, using a two-arm pre-post design study, which enrolled a cohort of caregivers of children 0-24 months in four districts of Tabora region, following them for nine months. ECD radio messages were broadcast on popular stations at least 10 times/day reaching all study districts. In two districts, community health workers (CHW) trained in UNICEF's Care for Child Development package and used ECD videos in home- and facility-based sessions with caregivers. Five outcomes were used to assess the intervention effects: ECD knowledge, early stimulation, father engagement, responsive care, and environment safety. Additionally the effect of the training and video job aids on the quality of CHWs' counseling support was evaluated primarily using structured observation checklists of household visits and facility group counseling sessions with caregivers and their children. Qualitative data was collected from a subset of caregivers and CHW participating in the study to assess acceptability and other perceptions of the project.
This study will be a carried out through a prospective observational cohort design in conjunction with researchers in the African Esophageal Cancer Consortium (AfrECC). The purpose of this research is to prospectively evaluate outcomes related to existing treatment strategies for esophageal cancer (EC) at participating sites within AfrECC.
Local application of antibiotics directly to the traumatic wound is a promising treatment for the prevention of infection after open tibia fractures, which are a significant source of disease burden globally, particularly in low-income countries. This study aims to measure the effect of locally applied gentamicin on risk of infection for open tibial fractures in Tanzania. If proven effective, local gentamicin would be a highly cost-effective strategy to reduce complications and disability from open tibial fractures that could impact care in both high- and low-income countries.
IMPAACT 2028 is an observational prospective study to characterize a cohort of early treated children who may participate in future research related to HIV remission or cure. Up to approximately 250 participants will be in the study for approximately seven years. No intervention is provided in the study.

This trial will evaluate a novel insecticide against those insecticide resistant mosquito vectors in Tanzania E Africa.
This study aims to reduce morbidity and mortality among children and mitigate antimicrobial resistance using a novel clinical decision support algorithm, enhanced with point-of-care technologies to help health workers in primary health care settings in Tanzania. Furthermore, the tool provides opportunities to improve supervision and mentorship of health workers and enhance disease surveillance and outbreak detection.
