Rescue Stenting in the Severe Atherosclerotic Stenosis After the Failure of Intravenous Thrombolysis

Intravenous (IV) recombinant tissue plasminogen activator is the standard of care for patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who present to the hospital within 4.5 hours of symptom onset. However, IV thrombolysis, even bridging thrombolysis (combining intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy) has limited efficacy among patients who had occlusive lesions associated with highgrade arterial stenosis requiring revascularization to improve neurological deficits. The investigators evaluated whether rescue stenting results in good outcomes among patients after the failure of intravenous thrombolysis and bridging thrombolysis.

Preoperative Identification of the Histologically "Vulnerable" Plaque Using Non-invasive Imaging, Biomechanical Assessment and Baroreflex Evaluation in Patients With Severe Carotid Stenosis

Carotid artery stenosis due to atherosclerotic plaques accounts for an important cause of ischemic stroke. Current research seeks to risk stratify asymptomatic patients by characterizing rupture-prone plaques. Currently no single imaging modality can reliably identify those plaques before surgery. Recently, the 3D ultrasound (US) and the assessment of the mechanical stress on the vessel wall have been proposed as non-invasive tools that could play a role in the diagnostic work-up. Data of histological validation, however, are still needed. In this research, 3D US, non-invasive elastography, Finite Element Analysis of computed tomography angiography images and the study of the autonomic cardiovascular control will be used to identify preoperatively the vulnerable plaque in patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy. The results will be compared to that of histology of the removed plaque, aiming to provide a validation to each method for a possible application in the daily practice.

Lumbar Proprioception in Patients With Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

The primary aim of this study was to compare spinal proprioception in patients with Lumbal Spinal Stenosis (LSS) (with or without surgery) and healthy controls. A secondary aim was to investigate the effect of pain at target positions where repositioning error (RE) was assessed and TLF flexibility on spinal proprioception deficiency.This cross-sectional and healthy controlled study was conducted in patients with LSS. Participants will be grouped as: Healthy control (Group I), chronic low back pain due to LSS (Group II) and undergoing surgery due to LSS (Group III). Reposition error (RE), pain at target positions of RE and flexibility of the TLF were assesed with iphone tiltmeter app, VAS and goniometric platform, respectively. Target positions of reposition error were: 30º forward bending and 15º backward bending in sitting and standing.
