Filter by:Based on barriers identified in a systematic literature search, a self-report questionnaire called "BIOTICA" has been developed by the research team to assess medication adherence barriers to oral AB. The purpose of the BIOTICA-questionnaire is to detect individual barriers that prevent the optimal intake of oral AB and thus, lead to inadequate adherence or persistence to the regimen. A study is now needed to establish construct validity. Correlation between the answers to the BIOTICA-questionnaire and the electronically monitored intake of the oral AB will be analyzed in the general population.
To depict the incidence, outcomes and standards of care (SoC) of adenovirus (AdV) infections and associated practice patterns in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant recipients. It is expected that participating centers will be in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy.
Severe intraoperative hyperglycemia (SIH) is recognized as one of the important risk factors for the increasing of the postoperative infections rate, which can negatively affect the final outcome of surgical treatment. Studies in recent years have shown a much higher incidence of wound infections, respiratory and urinary tract infections in patients who intraoperatively had an increase in blood glucose level (BGL) above 180 mg/dl (10 mmol/l). This problem in neurosurgery is especially important due to the high proportion of patients with acute injuries and potentially long-term need for postoperative intensive care, as well as the frequent use of drugs that increase blood glucose level (steroids) in neurooncology. Most published studies include patients from both of these groups. This study is aimed to assess the impact of severe intraoperative hyperglycemia on the incidence of infectious complications only in patients scheduled for elective intracranial interventions.
The demand for alternatives to dairy products has increased in recent years and a lot of proposals for vegetable milk and yogurt products have taken place in the market. Quinoa is a plant from South America that has growth in popularity in recent years as many sought out nutritious and healthier eating, the herb is known for its high nutritional value. It is complete protein source containing all the essential amino acids. If this herb were fermented with probiotic bacteria, there is a potential for a product that is lactose free, gluten free and cholesterol free. The probiotic potential of quinoa milk, fermented with food associated lactic acid bacteria will be investigated. This includes a study that examines how daily consumption of this vegetable drink changes the composition of the oral and intestinal flora. Therefore, healthy people are now seeking to participate in the study, which will be for just over 2 weeks.
Since December 2019, there has been an outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia in China. As of February 18, 2020, 72,530 cases confirmed with 2019 coronavirus disease(COVID-19) have been reported and 1,870 deaths were declared. Until now, cases of COVID-19 have been reported in 26 countries. This observational study aims to analysis the clinical features of neonates with COVID-19 and the neonates born to mother with COVID-19.
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infection in nursing home residents, and symptomatic UTI in the nursing home setting is the most frequent reason for hospitalization and antimicrobial therapy in Taiwan. Increasing antimicrobial resistance has stimulated interest in non-antibiotic prophylaxis of UTI. The primary aim of this study is to test the efficacy of standardized concentrated herbal extract granules TRA in the reduction of the incidence of symptomatic UTI and associated hospitalization in high-risk nursing home residents. These aims were accomplished by conducting a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled efficacy trial of TRA daily versus placebo granules in a cohort of Changhua County nursing home residents in Taiwan. A total of 164 nursing home residents at high risk for UTI were be enrolled. A permuted block design with a block size of 6 were conducted. And a Stratification by nursing home accounted for potentially different standards of care. Subjects will be randomly assigned to receive either TRA (10 g) or the placebo two times per day for 42 consecutive days. All subjects in both groups will also continuously receive their daily medication without any dose or medicine change. Urinalysis was evaluated before and after administration. Independent statisticians performed the data analysis at the end of the trial.
A Multicentre, controlled, randomized trial of 3 site (urethra, pharynx and rectum) sampling performed every 3 months (3x3) for Neisseria gonorrhoea (Ng)/Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) screening (comparator) vs. no screening (intervention).
To determine the efficacy of metformin in reducing the rate of symptomatic YF17D infection, and to elucidate the effects of metformin on YF17D viremia and the downstream adaptive immune response, we hereby propose a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial that is coupled with a system biology approach. We plan to recruit 44 healthy volunteers aged 21-40 years, with a Body Mass Index of 20-25 kg/m2, have no known drug allergies and are not currently receiving regular immune-modulating therapy such as metformin, NSAIDs, paracetamol, corticosteroids or statins. The age range that we propose will ensure that our volunteers are likely to be healthy and not be on long-term medication for other concurrent medical conditions. This would abrogate the confounding effect of YF17D infection enhancement by cross reactive antibodies that we have previously shown. Informed written consent will be obtained before any physical examination is performed. All consented subjects will undergo screening which includes a full physical examination, vital signs measurement, clinical laboratory tests and urine pregnancy test (for female subjects of child-bearing potential) Eligible subjects will be randomized 1:1 to either metformin 1000mg or placebo twice daily for 7 consecutive days (Days 1-7). On Day 4, subjects will be administered one dose of YF17D before study drug dosing. Aim 1 tests the hypothesis that prophylactic metformin reduces ER stress and thus attenuates the post-infection pro-inflammatory response for reduced rate of symptomatic outcome. The primary objective for Aim 1 is to determine the efficacy of metformin in reducing the rate of symptomatic YF17D infection using a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial. Aim 2 explores the effectiveness of metformin, either through its action on ER stress or other pathways that differentially regulate the expression of pro- and anti-viral host factors, in inhibiting live attenuated vaccine infection and downstream adaptive immune responses. The primary objective for Aim 2 is to elucidate the effects of metformin on YF17D viremia and the downstream adaptive immune response.
The "COVID-19 infection self-test and alert system" (hereinafter referred to as "COVID-19 self-test applet") jointly developed by Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Institute for precision medicine, artificial intelligence of Tsinghua University was launched on February 1,2020. Residents , according to their actual healthy situation, after answering questions online, the system will conduct intelligent analysis, make disease risk assessment and give healthcare and medical guidance. Based on the Internet population survey, and referring to the diagnosis and screening standards of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, investigators carried out the mobile applet of Internet survey and registry study for the Internet accessible identifiable population, so as to screen the suspected population and guide the medical treatment.
