Performance of Artificial Intelligence in Colonoscopy for Right Colon Polyp Detection

The aim of the study is to assess whether the use of artificial intelligence improves polyp detection in a segment of the colon (the right colon). To achieve this objective, patients will be divided into two groups: one will undergo a standard colonoscopy, the other a colonoscopy with the artificial intelligence software connected to the machine. This software does not modify the colonoscopy technique in any way, and does not require the administration of any product to the patient. The study will compare the detection rate of right colon polyps between the group of patients who underwent standard colonoscopy and those who underwent colonoscopy with artificial intelligence. If this number does not differ between the two groups, the investigators can conclude that there is no point in using artificial intelligence.

The aim of this project is to audit the surgical care in patients treated for colorectal adenocarcinoma. This study focused on collecting data from all consecutive cases of colon and rectal adenocarcinoma operated at the National Institute of Oncology in Rabat during a two-years period. Using standardized forms, the investigators collected data relating to each stage of treatment: pre-therapeutic, surgical and post-operative in order to measure the quality of the surgical care delivered. These results were compared to established benchmarks and to similar audit studies carried out in other countries around the world.

The Pathogenesis of Chronic Diarrhoea After Treatment for Cancer in Cecum and the Ascending Colon

Many patients suffer from chronic diarrhoea after surgical treatment for cancer in the right side of the colon. The investigators' main hypothesis is that colon cancer patients with chronic diarrhoea have a higher risk of bile acid malabsorption compared with colon cancer patients without diarrhoea. The investigators also expect that a part of the cases of bile acid malabsorption is caused by underlying bacterial overgrowth in the small bowel. The investigators assume that patients with severe bile acid malabsorption have a lower value of FGF19 in the blood compared to patients with moderate or none bile acid malabsorption. Furthermore, it is assumed that patients with chronic diarrhoea and documented bile acid malabsorption after surgical treatment for right-sided colon cancer will get improved bowel function when treated with a bile acid binder, or antibiotics in case of bacterial overgrowth.

Oxaliplatin Microdosing Assay in Predicting Exposure and Sensitivity to Oxaliplatin-Based Chemotherapy

This pilot clinical trial studies how well carbon C 14 oxaliplatin microdosing assay works in predicting exposure and sensitivity to oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy in patients with colorectal cancer that has spread to other places in the body and usually cannot be cured or controlled with treatment. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as oxaliplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Carbon C 14 is a radioactive form of carbon, exists in nature and in the body at a low level. Microdose carbon C 14 oxaliplatin diagnostic assay may help doctors understand how well patients respond to treatment and develop individualize oxaliplatin dosing in patients with colorectal cancer.

Nintedanib and Capecitabine in Treating Patients With Refractory Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and best dose of nintedanib when given together with capecitabine and to see how well they work in treating patients with colorectal cancer that has not responded to previous treatment (refractory) and has spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Nintedanib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It may also block the growth of new blood vessels necessary for tumor growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as capecitabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving nintedanib with capecitabine may be a better treatment for colorectal cancer.

Lower or Standard Dose Regorafenib in Treating Patients With Refractory Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

This randomized phase II trial studies how well lower-dose compared to standard dose regorafenib works in treating patients with colorectal cancer that has spread from the primary site (place where it started) to other places in the body and does not respond to treatment. Regorafenib may stop the growth of colorectal cancer by blocking the growth of new blood vessels necessary for tumor growth and by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether lower-dose or standard dose regorafenib is more effective in treating patients with colorectal cancer. Clobetasol propionate is a steroid cream that is commonly used to treat a variety of skin conditions and may help prevent hand-foot skin reactions in patients receiving regorafenib.
