Filter by:The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate how walking in different environments affects the psychophysiological responses to the stress of individuals with coronary artery disease (CAD) according to their weather sensitivity. Awareness about the potential influence of weather sensitivity on the psychophysiological reactions to stress in patients with CAD disease may contribute to the planning and implementation of actions leading to improved medical care services and preventative measures that help to avoid the worsening of health and well-being in the future.
Many pregnant women face the risk of experiencing depression after giving birth, especially if they've previously dealt with depression. The goal of this study, is to test if our newly developed Prenatal Affective Cognitive Training (PACT) intervention, can decrease the likelihood of post partum depression. In the study, 226 pregnant women, some of whom are considered high risk due to past mental illness or psycho-social risk factors, will participate. The high-risk women will be divided into two groups. One group will undergo the PACT training, which involves computer and virtual reality exercises spanning five weeks, designed to improve mood and emotional regulation. The other group will receive usual care. The main aim is to observe whether the women who undergo PACT intervention are less prone to depression after childbirth compared to those who do not. This study has potential to offer a simple, non-invasive method to bolster mental health in expectant mothers, which could also positively impact their infants.
A study investigating the effects of acute caffeine intake on cognition based on genes associated with caffeine metabolism and physiological effect.
This study will primarily investigate the impacts of a one-time unconditional cash transfer on the well-being of recently homeless individuals. Secondary research questions will examine the impact of personal coaching for cash recipients and the impact of a workshop and coaching intervention for non-cash recipients.
The investigators hypothesise that carnosine supplementation will improve: 1. glycaemic control 2. cardiovascular risk factors 3. cognitive outcomes in patients with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, and this will be modulated by reduction in chronic low grade inflammation, oxidative stress and circulating advanced glycation end products levels. 3. Aims To determine the potential of carnosine supplementation for 14 weeks to improve glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes, reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease and improve cognitive function as well as identify metabolic pathways involved, specifically by: 1. Improving glycaemic control (HBA1c, fasting and 2 hour glucose and glucose area under the curve after oral glucose tolerance test) 2. Reducing cardiovascular risk factors (lipids; arterial (aortic) stiffness; central blood pressure (cBP); endothelial function). 3. Improve cognitive function (global cognitive score formed by a composite of 4 cognitive tests) 4. Decrease the chronic low grade inflammation, oxidative stress, advanced glycation end products, and advanced lipoxidation end products, and increase detoxification of reactive carbonyl species (RCSs).
