Filter by:Dual antiplatelet therapy has a key role in a prevention of thrombosis of treated artery in patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Weak therapeutic response and presence of residual platelet activity is related to high risk for stent thrombosis and it is well in known in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However there are few data on the association between a different entity of platelet inhibition on antiplatelet treatment and clinical outcomes in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of on-treatment platelet reactivity, and its association with ischemic and hemorrhagic adverse events at follow up in PAD patients undergoing PTA.
Interventional strategies aim to restore tissue perfusion. However, despite the simple reopening of a narrowed artery they affect endothelial function, perpetuating dysfunctional vascular homeostasis. PTA and atherectomy might alter the endothelial function but the mechanisms are incompletely understood. The primary goal of atherectomy is vessel preparation and improving compliance, which could aid in preserving vessel functions. Aim of this study is to determine safety, efficacy, patency and vessel functions in the femoropopliteal artery following atherectomy and DCB.
Endovascular treatment of the superficial femoral artery has a high initial success rate, but restenosis occurs in up to 60% of cases. While restoration of tissue perfusion is achieved, interventional strategies affect endothelial function. Endothelial dysfunction is the pathophysiologic principle involved in the initiation and progression of arteriosclerosis. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of endovascular strategies in the superficial femoral artery on local and systemic endothelial and vascular function.
This study evaluates the effect of additional hyperbaric oxygen therapy after lower extremity amputation. The patients will be randomized after amputation to either a treatment group receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or control group.
This study evaluates the local inflammatory and resolution response of patients undergoing peripheral vascular intervention like an angioplasty of the superficial femoral artery (SFA) or popliteal artery, or stenting of the iliac artery or SFA, through the use of Positron emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI). PET/MRI will be performed prior to intervention, one day and one week after intervention.
To our knowledge, the measurement of the transcutaneous oxygen pressure during walking is the only continuous method that estimates the importance of ischemia, bilaterally and segment of limb by segment of limb. The determination of the lactates concentration, with micro method from earlobe sampling, is very widely validated in physiology and exercise physiopathology; and it is widely used, by laboratories, for exercise investigation in athletes. We use it in routine to evaluate the presence of functional limitation during tcpO2 tests on a treadmill. The present study hypothesises a significant relationship between lactatemia variation (difference between lactatemia after 3 minutes of recovery from walking and the value at rest) and tcpO2 "decrease from rest of oxygen pressure (DROP) values for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD).
Subjects with a known diagnosis of peripheral artery disease as measured by an abnormal ankle brachial index (<.9 or >1.1) will undergo a single 5 min exposure of 670 nm light, 1 cm above the gastrocnemius muscle. Blood flow will be measured by infusion of ultrasound contrast and subsequent acquisition of ultrasound images. 2 blood samples will be collected for measurement of nitric oxide metabolites.
The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of fish oil supplement (containing parts of omega-3 fatty acids) on inflammation. The investigators are aiming to identify which dose of the fish oil supplement is the most effective. The name of the fish oil supplement is "SPM Emulsion."
