Filter by:The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the role of flavored on!® nicotine pouch products (the research products), an oral tobacco-leaf-free product, in the replacement of cigarettes with the use of the research products among adults who smoke cigarettes. The main question it aims to answer is whether flavored (vs. non-flavored) research products generate greater reduction of cigarette smoking among adults who smoke cigarettes. Participants will be provided with research products to use for 6 weeks. Researchers will compare the reduction in cigarette smoking between participants with access to a complete flavor profile of research products and participants with access to only the Original (non-flavored) variety of research product to see if reduction in cigarette smoking is greater among those with access to flavored research products.
Project RESIST is an R01 study funded by NCI focused on determining the effects of using culturally tailored inoculation approaches to increase resilience to tobacco marketing influences among young adult sexual minority women ages 18-30 and incorporates critical stakeholder inputs that support later adoption and implementation. The study team is utilizing formative research to design and pre-test anti-smoking messages and two national longitudinal online survey experiments.

This clinical trial studies positron emission tomography (PET) imaging utilizing 18F-(2S,4R)4-fluoroglutamine, a glutamic acid derivative, to image patients with Newly Diagnosed Lung Cancer or Indeterminate Pulmonary Nodules. [18F]Fluoroglutamine PET may provide additional information that help diagnose lung cancer.
This study will assess the impact of cigarette constituent messages with and without FDA source and quit information in a randomized controlled trial. The investigators hypothesize that cigarette constituent messages will increase intention to quit compared to messages about littering cigarettes (the control). The investigators also hypothesize that constituent messages that include FDA source and quit information will increase intention to quit compared to messages without that information.
In this study, potential associations between several genetic polymorphisms and nicotine dependence will be examined. The relative reinforcing efficacy of cigarettes using the forced-choice procedure will be assessed. In addition, reactivity to smoking cues using a reliable procedure will be conducted.
The purpose of this randomized controlled trial is to determine whether constituent disclosures on cigarette packs increase intentions to quit smoking. Previous studies have been informative, but they have evaluated candidate graphic warnings, not constituent disclosures. Furthermore, they typically expose participants to messages in controlled but artificial experimental settings for a short period of time, using much lower frequency and shorter duration of message exposure than found in the real world. This study addresses these issues by evaluating the impact of constituent disclosures by randomly assigning smokers to have their cigarette packs labeled with constituent disclosure messages or cigarette butt littering messages.
This clinical trial compares fluorine F 18 L-glutamate derivative BAY94-9392 (18F-FSPG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) to the standard of care fluorodeoxyglucose F-18 (18F-FDG) PET/CT in imaging patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer or indeterminate pulmonary nodules. PET/CT uses a radioactive glutamate (one of the common building blocks of protein) called 18F-FSPG which may be able to recognize differences between tumor and healthy tissue. Since tumor cells are growing, they need to make protein, and other building blocks, for cell growth that are made from glutamate and other molecules. PET/CT using a radioactive glutamate may be a more effective method of diagnosing lung cancer than the standard PET/CT using a radioactive glucose (sugar), such as 18F-FDG.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of changes in cigarette package color and warning label features on smoking behaviors and beliefs about cigarette risks.
The long-term goal is to improve the quality of life of children and their parents who smoke tobacco by facilitating parental smoking cessation in a way that is easy to administer yet effective. We aim to accomplish this goal by administering an interactive computer-based program that will facilitate motivation and readiness to engage in smoking cessation by providing personalized feedback about the financial and health effects of the parent's smoking. We will compare the changes in motivation and readiness to quit smoking after the parent has taken the computer-based program and compare them to the changes in motivation and readiness to quit in parents who receive only information about the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline. We will also measure salivary cotinine levels in both parents and children, to objectively measure changes in smoking habits and secondhand smoke exposure. Our hypothesis is that our computer-based program will cause a greater increase in motivation and confidence to quit smoking in the group that receives the customized feedback than the group that receives only information about the Tobacco Helpline. We also predict that both parent and child cotinine levels will show a greater decrease in the group randomized to receive personalized feedback.
