NCT ID: NCT02195765 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis

Randomized Clinical Trial of Enamel Matrix Derivative: Radiographic Analysis

Start date: June 2002
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This is a split-mouth, double-blind randomized controlled trial. Computerized linear radiographic measurements were used to detect infrabony defects treated with open flap debridement (OFD) or OFD associated with enamel matrix derivative (EMD), after 24 months. Ten patients presenting 2 or more defects were selected (43 defects). An individualized film holder was used to take standardized radiographs at baseline and after 24 months. Images were digitized and used to measure the distances from the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) to the alveolar crest (AC), CEJ to the bottom of the defect (BD) and infrabony defect angle.

NCT ID: NCT02190773 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis

Effect of Surgical Therapy on RANKL/OPG (Osteoprotegerin) System

Start date: January 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

In the present clinical study including chronic, aggressive periodontitis and healthy individuals, the investigators aimed to determine the RANKL, osteoprotegrin (OPG), Interleukin-1 (IL-1β), IL-10, IL-1β levels in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) before and after surgical periodontal treatment and search out the relationship of clinical parameters with these cytokine levels.

NCT ID: NCT02174757 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis

Effect of Probiotic Inersan and Doxycycline in Chronic Periodontitis

Start date: August 2014
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease that can lead to the destruction of supporting tissues of the teeth resulting in pocket formation, recession or both. Since the primary etiological factors for periodontal disease are bacteria in supra and sub gingival biofilm, efforts for disease prevention and treatment are mainly focused on pathogen reduction and strengthening of epithelial barrier, thus contributing to decreased susceptibility to infection. Due to emergence of antibiotic resistance and frequent recolonization of treated sites with pathogenic bacteria, there was need for a new treatment paradigm to be introduced to periodontal disease. The need was fulfilled by the introduction of Probiotics and Bacterial Replacement Therapy. The term probiotic is derived from the Greek, meaning "for life" are microorganisms proven to exert health promoting influences in humans and animals. Food and Agriculture Organization and WHO have stated that there is potential for probiotic foods to provide health benefits and that specific strains are safe for human use.

NCT ID: NCT02174146 Completed - Clinical trials for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Leptin and Visfatin in Diabetic Patients With Periodontitis Before and After Periodontal Therapy

Start date: September 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

1. Are adipokines involved in pathogenesis of periodontal disease in diabetic patients? 2. Does their level change after periodontal therapy?

NCT ID: NCT02172716 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2

Disruption of Immune Homeostasis in Type 2 Diabetics With Generalized Chronic Periodontitis

Start date: May 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this study is to assess the short-term immune response of type-2 diabetics with generalized chronic periodontitis (GCP) to nonsurgical periodontal treatment. The investigators hypothesize that type-2 diabetes exacerbates the disruption of DC (dendritic cells)-mediated immune homeostasis associated with periodontitis.

NCT ID: NCT02170857 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis With Infra-bony Defects

Effect of Hyaluronic Acid in the Treatment of Periodontal Pockets

Start date: June 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of hyaluronic acid in the surgical treatment of periodontal pockets in people with gum disease. This research consists of clinical and radiographic studies. Participants should have symmetric periodontal pockets in the upper or lower jaw. Participants will be treated surgically using hyaluronic acid on one side of the jaw. Clinical indexes and radiographic cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) images will be taken for each participant before surgical treatment and 12 months after surgical treatment.

NCT ID: NCT02168621 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis

Intervention Study of Two Protocols for Non-surgical Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis

Start date: February 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Treatment directed towards the control of periodontal infections is to about 90% non-surgical procedures. There is evidence from a large number of randomized controlled studies that the efficacy in terms of clinical outcomes of a full-mouth ultrasonic debridement approach (FMUD) is comparable to that of traditional section-wise scaling and root planing (SRP). A hypothesis for the current effectiveness study is that comparable clinical effects will be obtained with the FMUD approach as with conventional section-wise SRP, but with significantly more favourable patient-centred and health-economic outcomes. This randomized study involves about 100 professionals (dental hygienists) and more than 850 patients at 40 dental clinics in the Vastra Gotaland Region, Sweden. The project not only evaluate treatment effects in terms of pertinent clinical outcomes, it also has a strong focus on patient-centered measures - patient-reported experience measures (PREM) and patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) - as well as health-economics.

NCT ID: NCT02168543 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis

1% Alendronate Gel in Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis Among Smokers

Start date: March 2009
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

- Locally delivered Alendronate (ALN) have potent inhibitory effect on bone and increases new bone formation in chronic periodontitis patients - Till date no study has reported the effect of local delivery of ALN in chronic periodontitis patients among smokers. Hence the aim of this study is to investigate the clinical and radiographic effects of locally delivered ALN as an adjunct to the non surgical treatment in smoker chronic periodontitis patients.

NCT ID: NCT02160613 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis

Osteoprotegerin Before and After Periodontal Surgery

Start date: April 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The study hypothesis: Is Osteoprotegerin a diagnostic and/or prognostic marker of periodontal disease?

NCT ID: NCT02159781 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Chronic Periodontitis

Effect of Periodontal Treatment on Salivary Biomarkers

Start date: July 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The investigators plan to recruit 40 healthy patients referred to the unit of Periodontology, diagnosed with generalized moderate - severe chronic periodontitis. treatment will include 4 - 6 sessions of scaling + root planning, oral hygiene instructions and motivation. Whole saliva will be collected at intake and 8 - 14 weeks post periodontal treatment. Saliva will be analyzed for trans locator protein. Study hypothesis: Periodontal treatment has an affect on saliva components.
