Relationships Between OLST, GMFM and Pedobarographic Values in CP

Start date: January 10, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The primary aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the One Leg-Standing Test (OLST) and the Gross Motor Function Measurement (GMFM) and stance phase stability during gait in Unilateral Cerebral Palsy (UCP). The secondary aim was to explore a new well-defined pedobarographic parameter as a functional factor in the stability of stance in gait. The investigator's hypotheses are (1) OLST has relationship between T2-T1 in children with UCP; (2) OLST has relationship between GMFM D and E. Eighteen children with UCP and ten typically developing children (TDC) participated in the study. All participants and their legal guardians signed an informed consent form before participating. Firstly, to asses the stability in stance all participants were analyzed by using pedobarographic analysis and the OLST. After analysis, only the UCP group was evaluated with the GMFM. The TDC group was used for comparison of pedobarographic stance phase stability (T2-T1) and OLST values.

Effects of Using Dynamic Elastomeric Fabric Orthoses

Start date: March 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses (DEFOs) used for lower trunk and pelvis on balance, gait parameters, and pelvis symmetry in children with cerebral palsy. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two children (7 girls, 15 boys) in an age range of 4-10 years, with spastic type cerebral palsy, and at gross motor function classification system levels 1 or 2 were included in the study. Children who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups. Ten children were included in the control group (Group I) and 12 children were included in the orthosis group (Group II). Both groups received a physiotherapy and rehabilitation program twice a week for 8 weeks in accordance with neurodevelopmental treatment approaches. Children in Group II were treated with DEFOs in lower body and pelvis in addition to physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions. The use frequency of the orthosis was extended over the course of the week during which they were active for 8 hours a day. After the demographic data of the children were recorded, the Pediatric Balance Scale and the Timed Up and Go Test were used for balance assessment. Gait parameters and kinematic values of the pelvis were evaluated using the BTS G-Walk®, a wireless mini digital gait analysis system.

NCT ID: NCT04270305 Completed - Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials

Study of Navigation Skills in Cerebral Palsy for Assessment and Rehabilitation in Immersive Virtual Reality

Start date: February 9, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Spatial navigation refers to the ability to maintain a sense of direction/location while moving around the environment so to find one's way. It includes abilities such as orienting in complex environments, perceiving distance and planning routes to distant locations as well as mentally representing the reciprocal relations of landmarks in space (Lawton, 2010; Wolbers & Hegarty 2010. Spatial navigation involves the precision in encoding multisensorial (visual, vestibular, proprioceptive)experiences, as well as to form mental representations to be used to guide behavior (Bianchini et al.,2014). Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by movement and posture disorders causing activity limitation. Impairment in many other functions is common in CP including visual spatial competences and spatial organization. In this study the investigators meant to explore the navigation and learning strategies in children with CP.

Effect of mCIMT Casting on Speech-language Outcomes in Children With Hemiparesis

Start date: January 6, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Modified constraint-induced movement therapy (mCIMT) has been successfully used with children who have hemiplegia (weakness or paralysis on one side of the body.) mCIMT uses a removable cast during treatment and home exercise programs. It has been found that mCIMT can improve use, strength and coordination of a child's affected hand, and may also help improve speech and language skills. The goal of this project is to investigate whether combining mCIMT with speech therapy will enhance speech outcomes in children with cerebral palsy.

Turkish Validity And Reliability Of The Hammersmith Infant Neurological Evaluation (Hine)

Hine
Start date: March 15, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

The high risk of infants are defined as having a negative environmental and biological factor history, where these factors can lead to neuromotor development problems. It is a heterogeneous group of premature babies born under the age of thirty-seven weeks, with a low birth weight term or infants with developmental retardation due to various reasons. Risk factors in preterm infants include perinatal asphyxia, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), broncho pulmonary dysplasia (BPD), hyperbilirubinemia, infection. alcohol syndrome, muscle tone disorders, low birth weight, hydrocephalus and microcephaly. These babies, especially preterm infants with low birth weight, may encounter a neurological sequence such as Cerebral Palsy (CP), epilepsy, hearing and vision loss, mental retardation, language-speech, behavioral problems and learning difficulties. CP is the most common disease of childhood, with the possibility of occurrence in 2-3 / 1000 live births.Today, the effectiveness of various methods has been proven to make early diagnosis of CP. One of these methods is the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Evaluation (HINE).
