NCT ID: NCT05733676 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Orthodontic Appliance Complication

Comparison of MI Paste Plus and Resin Infiltration in White Spot Lesions Following Orthodontic Treatment

Start date: May 30, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Dental cavities are among the most frequent diseases that affect teeth, particularly in patients who are treated with braces due to the difficulty in maintaining good oral hygiene in the presence of the mouth appliances. The white spot lesion (WSL) is the first clinical sign of cavities that presents itself as a milky-white opacity when located on the front face of the tooth. The aim to manage these early lesions focuses on promoting natural remineralization and preventing further demineralization. Various materials have been introduced for management of WSLs including MI paste and MI paste combined with fluoride (MI paste plus). Recently, a new material called resin infiltration has been found to treat these lesions with high esthetic results and great performance. According to the few numbers of in-vivo studies investigating the effectiveness of remineralization products, the aim of the current study is to clinically compare the outcome of the resin-infiltration and etching + MI paste plus to stop and improve the appearance of the WSL on front teeth in patients after treatment with braces.

NCT ID: NCT04642846 Recruiting - Caries Arrested Clinical Trials

Clinical and Laboratory Assessments of Effectiveness of Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) in Arresting Caries Among Children and Parental Satisfaction

Start date: November 21, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Globally, it is estimated that 2.4 billion people suffer from caries of permanent teeth and 486 million children suffer from caries of primary teeth . The highest estimate of dental caries prevalence in Saudi Arabia was 95% with maximum DMFT of 7.34 among 3-7 years old children . Also, it was found that 78% of 6-9 years old children in Dammam had caries with an average of 3.66±3.13 DMFT. The objectives of this study are: 1. To assess the effectiveness of the Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) in arresting caries. 2. To assess the antibacterial effect of the Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF). 3. To assess parents' and children's satisfaction and acceptance. The aims of our study are to assess the effectiveness of SDF in arresting caries in primary dentition among children visiting Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University in Dammam, Saudi Arabia and to assess parental acceptance and satisfaction. The expected outcome the results of this study will help in understanding the effectiveness SDF in arresting dental caries in this target population especially that it was recently approved for clinical use in Saudi Arabia.

NCT ID: NCT04255251 Recruiting - Caries; Dentin Clinical Trials

Effectiveness Silver Diamine Fluoride Versus Sodium Fluoride in Arresting Caries Around Crown Margins in Older Adults

Start date: June 26, 2021
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Dental caries is a multifactorial, progressive disease which is the major causes of dental pain, infection and tooth loss. Dental caries can substantially compromise the quality of life in older adults 1 2. As the number of older adults in the US increases, the dental professionals have become increasingly concerned with the dental need of elderly and preventive regimes to reduce the incidence of caries3 . Prevention becomes an area of paramount importance. Many studies have advocated nonsurgical intervention for shallow dentin caries lesion. The most effective method for prevention to date is considered to be fluoride. In the United states fluoride has been incorporated in many ways like water fluoridation, fluoride mouth wash, dentifrices and professionally applied fluoride varnishes . The American Dental Association (ADA) recommended the use of fluoride for patients of all ages who are at risk of developing dental caries7 . With the high success of fluoride, another treatment method using Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is gaining popularity in the United States. SDF has been used in many countries like Japan, Australia, China, and Cuba for treatment of caries . Successful treatment data from other countries is promising, and promoting the use of SDF in the United States. SDF is available in the United States as 38% aqueous solution and approved as a desensitizing agent. American Dental Association published an evidence-based clinical practice guideline on nonrestorative treatments for caries teeth and recommended use of SDF on a carious cavitated lesion on permanent teeth9 . Clinical studies have shown the effectiveness of SDF in arresting root caries in older adults.
