Filter by:The specific aim of this proposed pilot study is to compare two standardized processes (paper and electronic) to deliver a customized MedlinePlus health information prescription.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether Achilles tendon debridement and decompression augmented with flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon transfer results in improved clinical and functional outcome as measured by ankle plantar flexion strength and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score compared to debridement and decompression alone in patients over 50 years of age with chronic insertional Achilles tendinosis. H0: There will be no difference in ankle plantar flexion strength measured using a handheld dynamometer between patients randomized to achilles tendon decompression and debridement alone (Group 1) and patients randomized to achilles tendon decompression and debridement augmented with FHL transfer (Group 2). HA: Patients randomized to achilles tendon decompression and debridement alone (Group 1) will have less ankle plantar flexion strength compared to patients randomized to achilles tendon decompression and debridement augmented with FHL transfer (Group 2).
Idiopathic Adhesive Capsulitis, Frozen Shoulder is a condition in which there is a limitation and significant pain at the shoulder and it is increases with shoulder movements. The causes are not clear. The prevalence of this condition is four times higher in diabetic patient compare to the general population. The relation between frozen shoulder and impaired glucose tolerance remain unclear. Our hypothesis is that patients with no diabetes and that suffer from frozen shoulder have a higher prevalence of impaired glucose tolerance than the general population age matched.
Open-label study to be conducted at 2 US investigational sites in subjects who have acute tendonitis or bursitis of the shoulder, elbow, or knee. Eligible subjects receive treatment with the KTP, applied once daily at the same application site for 3 consecutive days.
The purpose of this study is to compare ultrasound guided capsular corticosteroid injection into the rotator interval/anterior capsule and the GH joint with ultrasound guided corticosteroid injection into the GH joint only. Both methods will be compared with placebo injections. Primary outcome measure: pain reduction at week 6 Secondary outcome measures: improvement of function (SPADI, Life quality, ROM). 0-hypothesis: no difference between the methods. The investigators want to find out if the clinical effect of the combined capsular and intra-articular injections are better than placebo and better that intra-articular injections
We are trying to see if ultrasound is a good tool for looking at the changes that happen on the inside of the shoulder due frozen shoulder.
The primary purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of once daily application of a diclofenac sodium patch to the skin near or over the painful area. In this study, the location being studied will be one of the following: the affected shoulder, elbow, or wrist. The secondary purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tolerability of the diclofenac patch on the subject's skin, in the location being studied.
The specific aim of this proposed project is to implement a standard process for integrating MedlinePlus health information prescriptions into the clinic workflow. Hypothesis 1: Individuals in the intervention group who receive tailored email health information with provider selected MedlinePlus links and added commentary for patient specific conditions will be more likely to seek information / use MedlinePlus compared with individuals in the control group. Hypothesis 2: Individuals in the intervention group who receive tailored email health information with provider selected MedlinePlus links and added commentary for patient specific conditions will be more satisfied with the information received compared with individuals in the control group.
The goals of our research project are to study the relationship, if any, between the success of a TB injection (measured by pain relief and general patient satisfaction) and the method in which it was placed. Because fluoroscopy places patients requires a slight risk from radiation exposure and increased cost versus blind injection, it is important to know if there is an advantage to using this technique. The investigators will randomize 64 patients to receive either trochanteric bursa injections with corticosteroid and local anesthetic guided by fluoroscopy, or trochanteric bursa patients to receive trochanteric bursa injections based on landmarks on palpation. The investigators will then determine which method is superior, and whether injecting steroid and local anesthetic into the bursa itself is superior or inferior to injecting it into a tender area outside the bursa.
