Filter by:The upper brachial plexus, a network of nerves in the neck and shoulder, is affected by Erb's palsy, often referred to as Erb-Duchenne palsy. This syndrome usually arises after labor, particularly if the baby's head and neck are pulled or stretched excessively during delivery. Erb's palsy can cause the hand and arm on the afflicted side of the body to become paralyzed or feeble. Erb's palsy symptoms can include: restricted range of motion in the injured arm. weakened hand and arm in the afflicted area, loss of feeling in the hand or arm. The effected arm is in "waiter's tip" position in which the elbow is bent and the wrist is flexed. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of modified constraint-induced movement therapy in children with erb's palsy, both with and without kinesiotaping. Convenient sampling will be the method of sampling, and the study design will be randomized control trial. There will be two groups created with n = 40 subjects each. Twenty participants will be divided into two groups: twenty for each group will receive modified constraint-induced movement therapy plus kinesiotaping, while twenty for the other group will receive modified constraint-induced movement therapy alone. The youngsters will be evaluated using the Active Movement Scale. Both at the program's baseline and after the intervention is over, data will be gathered. The course of treatment will run for eight weeks straight, meeting three times a week for an hour each time. Based on inclusion criteria, subjects from Ayesha Amir Memorial Hospital and Children Hospital Faisalabad will be chosen. Data analysis will be done using SPSS 25.00.
The aim of the study is to Study effect of sensory motor integration training on ADL activities in children with Erb's palsy.
ERB's palsy is an injury of upper section of the brachial plexus (C5-6) leading to an internally rotated and adducted shoulder and a pronated forearm. Modified constraint-induced movement therapy improves the functionality of the affected limb, while electrical stimulation helps in the improvement of active range of motion and muscle strength in ERB's palsy patients. This study aims to investigate the effects of modified constraint-induced movement therapy with and without electrical stimulation on range of motion, muscle strength, and motor functions in patients with ERB's Palsy.
Erb's Palsy is a physical impairment resulting from an injury to the upper trunk of the brachial plexus and is associated with paralysis of the upper limb. When the neck is stretched up and move away from the wounded shoulder while the shoulder is pressed down, damage to the top nerves that make up the brachial plexus is more likely to damage .These injuries occur due to traumatic activities(vehicle accidents),difficult births(breeched presentation ,prolonged labor and high birth weight). This study proposes to analyze the effects of activity based scapular mobilization on upper limb functions in children who have been diagnosed with Erb's Palsy. This will be a randomized control trial study. Data will be collected from 30 patients who will be randomly assigned to two groups of equal numbers experimental and control group each with 15. The participants of the experimental group will be treated with scapular mobilization ,activity based scapular mobilization(codman pendulum exercises, scapular pushups, band wall apart, wall ball circles and advance study wall pushups) along with conventional physical therapy program. Participants of control group is treated with activity based scapular mobilization and conventional physical therapy program. Patient evaluation will be made at the beginning and end of the treatment. Data will be analyzed through SPSS 25.
This study was set out to evaluate the effect of a 12-week stretch-shortening cycle exercise (SSC-Ex) on muscle strength, bone mineral density, and upper extremity function in children with obstetric brachial plexus injury (OBPI). Fifty-six patients with OBPI were randomly allocated to the SSC-Ex group (n = 28, received SSC-Ex program, twice/week, over 12 weeks) or the control group (n = 28, received standard exercise program). Both groups were assessed for muscle strength, bone health, and upper extremity function before and after treatment.
Erb's Duchenne paralysis constitutes the single commonest form of brachial plexus injury, brachial plexus injury (BPI) is unfortunately a rather common injury in newborn children. Incidence varies between 0.15 and 3 per 1000 live births in various series and countries. The constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) has been used to promote functional gains in individuals with neurological dysfunctions .The constraint-induced movement therapy consists of constraining movement of the non-affected upper extremity and providing intensive training to the involved upper extremity. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has been used for muscle strengthening, maintenance of muscle mass and strength during prolonged periods of immobilisation, selective muscle retraining, and the control of oedema. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation with and without Constraint Induced Movement Therapy on Upper limb Function in Children with Erb's Palsy. It is a Randomized Controlled Trial. The sample size calculated by using OpenEpi or GPower. Data will be collected from Jinnah Hospital,Children Hospital,Lahore medical city hospital,Farooq hospital,Rising sun institute and PSRD. The patients will be selected through non-probability convenience sampling, will be divided into two groups. The Group A will receive habituation exercises for six weeks, three times per week for thirty minutes, along with application of neuromuscular electrical stimulation for a period of 6 weeks four times a week and perform Constrained induced movement therapy techniques, each for 8 weeks. The interventions are consisted of 3weeks of casting the unaffected limb followed by 5 weeks of transference activities.. The Group B will be given neuromuscular electrical stimulation for a period of 6 weeks four times a week.Range of motion ,Flexibility exercises will be given as baseline treatment to both groups. The arm function was evaluated by the Mallet score system, while active abduction and external rotation range of motion were measured by a standard universal goniometer. Data will be analyzed by SPSS 25.
Brachial plexus neuropathies, specifically of the median, radial, ulnar, suprascapular, axillary and dorsal scapular nerves, can arise when a peripheral nerve trunk or nerve root is subjected to injury, compression, inflammation or ischemia, resulting in reduced physical capabilities of the peripheral nervous system. Although pharmacological treatments provide mild symptomatic relief in the short term, they are not without side effects. Neurostimulation techniques may be an effective treatment option for peripheral brachial plexus neuropathies. Some of these procedures are transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) or percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS). Although some case series have documented a positive effect in relation to ultrasound-guided PENS for subjects with subacromial pain syndrome or postsurgical pain, the lack of studies, to our knowledge, analyzing the effects of percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, in relation to pain and paresthesias in subjects with brachial plexus neuropathy, warrants investigation for this goal.
Erb's palsy is a type of brachial plexus injury occurs in infants due to injury of nerves during childbirth. Injury causes weakness or paralysis of different muscles. Different type of approaches are made for the treatment of erb;s palsy such passive range of motion, stretching ,splinting ,electrotherapy etc. In erb's palsy the most affected ranges are shoulder abduction and shoulder external rotation. Quasi experimental study will be done on the patient with erb's palsy intervention applied will be functional electrical stimulation (a low frequency current) applied 5 day a weeks for 2 weeks than on alternate days for the rest of the treatment. Setting for functional electrical stimulation will be Frequency 20 pps with Pulse width of 300 msec. 18 patient will be recruited . "Assumed population standard deviation"4.24" "Confidence level""0.95" "Acceptable error""2". Pre-intervention reading will be taken on modified mallet scale and universal goniometer and post intervention measurement will be taken after 02, 04 ,06 months.
Erb's palsy is a common neurological injury occurs at the time of birth. It causes injury to the upper trunk nerve root c5-c6, i.e., supply is around shoulder and muscles of forearm and these nerves network from the spine and pass through the cervicoaxillary canal in the neck and the ribs and emerge into the axilla. Restoring external rotation in erb's palsy is quite difficult and mostly surgery is recommended but if physiotherapy sessions are given with extended time up to 2 hours and latest techniques are applied to strengthen external rotators then range of external rotation can be improved.
The purpose of this clinical trial is to investigate the utility of composite wrapping comprising human amniotic membrane and allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HAM-AdMSC) for augmentation of nerve transfer procedure in upper TBPI patients
