Demineralized Bone Allograft Fibers Versus Particulate In Sinus Augmentation

The purpose of this clinical trial is to assess if the addition of DFDBA fibers to DBBM results in greater vital bone formation than the addition of DFDBA particles to DBBM. The study team will examine the effects of the addition of DFDBA fibers to DBBM on vital bone formation. Specifically, we will assess histologically the percent vital bone formation with each of the groups during implant placement, six months after the sinus augmentation procedure. We will also evaluate the radiographic volume achieved with both groups of materials.

Evaluation of Melatonin and Metformin Loaded Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Periodontal Intra-bony Defects

The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the effectiveness of local delivery of melatonin and metformin loaded nanoparticle gel as adjunct to scaling and root planning (SRP) in the treatment of periodontal intra bony defect. fifty two healthy patients(n=52) with at least one periodontal intra-bony defect will be included in the study, all selected patients will be motivated about the benefit of plaque control and periodontal treatment . The participant will be selected from outpatient clinic of the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology , Faculty of dentistry, Mansoura University . The participant will be classified into four groups :group I and II are test groups but group III and IV are control groups .Patients in group I will be treated with melatonin loaded nanoparticle gel while in group II will be treated with melatonin and metformin loaded nanoparticles which will be applied weekly for four weeks after SRP had been completed and group III will be treated with placebo gel while group IV will be treated with only scaling and root planning.

An Evaluation of Salivary Oxidant and Antioxidant Levels in Peri-implant Health and Disease

Objectives: Inflammatory lesions develop in the tissues surrounding implants are referred to as peri-implant diseases. Oxidants, play a role in inflammatory lesions. The study aimed to determine oxidant and antioxidant levels in the saliva of patients with various levels of peri-implant diseases and the relationship between oxidative stress and peri-implant diseases. Material and methods: Sixty-seven patients with at least one dental implant applied in our clinic were included in the study. The patients were divided into 3 groups; with peri-implantitis (PI), with marginal bone loss (MBL) and with healthy peri-implant (HI) tissues. Twenty-one individuals who didn't have any dental implants were included the study as a healthy control group (HC). For oxidant concentration, total oxidant status (TOS), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), and for antioxidant concentration, total antioxidant status (TAS), were investigated.

Radiological Bone Loss on Different Levels of Dental Implants

One of the criteria used for long-term implant success is the evaluation of radiographic bone loss. It is known that the keratinized mucosa over the alveolar crest forms a protective barrier against inflammatory infiltration. In addition, it has been reported that the vertical mucosal thickness on the crest is important in the formation of the biological width around the implant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of vertical mucosal thickness on the alveolar crest on peri-implant marginal bone loss around crestal and subcrestal placed platform-switching implants. In this study, patients will be divided into 2 main groups with vertical mucosal thickness of 2 mm and less and more than 2 mm, and both groups will consist of 2 subgroups as crestally and subcrestally according to the implant level placed. A total of 80 implants will be included, 20 implants in each group. Before starting the surgery, after anesthesia is given, the width of the patient's peri-implant keratinized mucosa and the vertical mucosal thickness over the alveolar crest will be measured. Clinical and radiological measurements will be made in all patients during the prosthetic loading session (T0), at 3rd month (T1), 6th month (T2) and 1 year after loading (T3). With standardized control periapical radiographs to be taken as a result of one-year follow-up, the marginal bone loss amount in the implants will be evaluated using soft-ware.

Ultrasound is currently not used in Dentistry and associated oral examinations and we are exploring its usefulness for clinical practice. This study will investigate the use of ultrasonic imaging for planning and placing dental implants, as well as evaluate the use of ultrasonic imaging for monitoring marginal bone loss around dental implants.

Three-dimensional Bone Regeneration Using Custom-made Meshes With and Without Collagen Membrane

The presence of alveolar ridge deficiencies is considered major limitation to achieve an implant-prosthetic restoration with high aesthetics and stability over time. Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) can be considered an effective solution for bone augmentation. The most advanced technology of GBR is the customized titanium mesh, which is developed with a fully digital work flow system. The aim of this study is to evaluate complications and bone augmentation rates after GBR, based on customized meshes with or without collagen membranes. After ethical committee approval, 30 patients with horizontal and/or vertical bone defects were enrolled and treated according to the study protocol. During reconstructive surgery (T0), patients were randomly divided into two study groups: 15 patients were treated by means of a custom-made mesh without collagen membrane (Group A - Control Group), while 15 patients were treated by means of a custom-made titanium mesh with a collagen membrane (Group B - Test Group). All sites were grafted with a mixture 50:50 of autogenous bone and xenograft and primary closures of surgical sites were obtained to ensure a submerged healing of the meshes. After 6 months (T1), re-entry surgery was completed to remove the meshes, evaluate the augmented volume and to place implants in the augmented sites. After 3 months (T2), soft tissue management was accomplished with implant exposure and a connective tissue graft, before prosthetic restoration (T3). Data collection included surgical and healing complications, planned bone volume (PBV) and reconstructed bone volume (RBV), pseudo-periosteum type, bone density, implant success, and crestal bone loss. A statistical analysis of recorded data was performed to investigate any statistically significant differences between the study group and statistical significance was set at a=0.05.
