NCT ID: NCT00835120 Completed - Metabolic Syndrome Clinical Trials

Pioglitazone for the Treatment of Bipolar Disorder and Comorbid Metabolic Syndrome or Insulin Resistance

Start date: March 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The study is an open-label 8-week adjunctive trial of pioglitazone for the acute relief of bipolar depression comorbid with metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance. Subjects who experience a partial or full response will have the option of continuing in an acute continuation phase lasting up to 12 weeks. The extension phase will allow assessment of the safety and tolerability of pioglitazone during the acute continuation period.

NCT ID: NCT00811473 Completed - Bipolar Depression Clinical Trials

Pediatric Bipolar Depression

Start date: January 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine if quetiapine fumarate extended-release (quetiapine XR or SEROQUEL® XR) 150 to 300 mg/day taken by itself is effective and safe in treating children or adolescents aged 10 to 17 with bipolar depression and if so, how it compares with placebo (a non-active tablet, like a sugar pill, that looks like quetiapine).

NCT ID: NCT00789113 Completed - Epilepsy Clinical Trials

Determination of Absorption and Elimination of Lamotrigine-XR

Start date: November 2008
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

People over 65 years of ag break down (metabolize) drugs differently than younger adults. It is not known why this happens or how elderly people absorb or break down these drug differently. These difference may show that elderly individuals need lower doses of medications to avoid possible toxicity. We are interested in studying how yor body absorbs and breaks down your lamotrigine medication. This research may indicate that doses of lamotrigine should be lowered as people get older.

NCT ID: NCT00762268 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

A Trial of SAMe for Treatment-Resistant Bipolar Depression

Start date: September 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) is a dietary supplement with antidepressant properties. SAMe's mechanism of action remains unclear, but it appears to be distinct from that of conventional antidepressants. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of these properties on the mood of bipolar subjects with persistent major depression that has been unresponsive to standard pharmacotherapy.

NCT ID: NCT00757328 Completed - Bipolar Depression Clinical Trials

Treatment Clinical Practice in Bipolar Depression in Spain

EPIDEP
Start date: July 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Cross-sectional observational, non interventional, multicenter study of retrospective review of clinical records of ambulatory followed up bipolar patients in order to record epidemiological aspects of the course of the disorder, more specifically of bipolar depression episodes and the clinical practices carried out by psychiatrists in Spain in bipolar depressive episodes

NCT ID: NCT00720473 Completed - Bipolar Depression Clinical Trials

Lamotrigine Therapy in Geriatric Bipolar Depression

Start date: April 2006
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

We propose to study the efficacy and tolerability of lamotrigine in the treatment of older adults with bipolar depression and to compare measures of brain energy metabolism between older subjects with bipolar depression and healthy age-matched controls in order to better understand treatment response in geriatric bipolar depression.

NCT ID: NCT00720369 Completed - Bipolar Depression Clinical Trials

CoQ10 in Geriatric Bipolar Depression

CoQ10
Start date: July 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

We propose to study and compare measures of brain energy metabolism in geriatric bipolar individuals and healthy older adults. We would also like to investigate changes in brain energy metabolites and in vivo creatine kinase (CK) enzymatic activity associated with CoQ10 administration in older bipolar individuals.

NCT ID: NCT00719706 Completed - Bipolar Depression Clinical Trials

The Use of a Mitochondrial Enhancement Treatment in Bipolar Disorder

Start date: August 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this 15-week clinical trial is to test the hypothesis that treatment with two proven mitochondrial enhancers, acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) and α-lipoic acid (ALA), has significantly greater efficacy than placebo as an augmentation treatment in bipolar depressed patients who display an incomplete response to conventional treatments.

NCT ID: NCT00578383 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

Low Field Magnetic Stimulation in Mood Disorders Using the LFMS Device

LFMS
Start date: November 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is designed to test whether low-field magnetic stimulation (LFMS) can relieve some of the symptoms of depression in bipolar disorder or major depression.

NCT ID: NCT00566735 Completed - Clinical trials for Schizoaffective Disorder

The Use of Galantamine HBr (Reminyl) in Electroconvulsive Therapy: Impact on Mood and Cognitive Functioning

Galantamine
Start date: July 2004
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the study is to see if galantamine HBr (Razadyne) is safe and can help treat problems with thinking and memory caused by electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
