ABC-CT Pre-School Feasibility Study

This is a multicenter study that aims to determine whether the EEG and ET experiments studied in the ABC-CT Phase 1 and ABC-CT Confirmation studies can be successfully used with 3-5-year-old children and to determine the viability of these measures as potential biomarkers in 3-5-year-old children with ASD. Blood (DNA) samples will be collected from participants with ASD and biological parents for future genomic analyses, and raw, processed, and analyzed data will be shared to create a community resource accessible for use by all qualified investigators. These objectives are designed to advance the long term objective of developing promising biomarkers via the FDA Biomarker Qualification Program. This feasibility study aims to enroll 25 ASD and 25 TD eligible participants who are 3-5 years old.

Prevalence and Healthcare Consumption of ASD Patients Using French Medico-administrative Data

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the neurodevelopmental disorders described in the DSM5 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). This heterogeneous syndrome appears in childhood and persists throughout life with different developments from one individual to another. It is clinically characterized by the combination of deficits in social communication with restricted and repetitive behaviors. The prevalence of ASD has seen a significant increase over the last 10 years, with estimates varying greatly from one country to another, ranging from 4.2/1,000 in France to 31/1,000 in Iceland. In France, prevalence has been estimated by two child disability registers set up in the departments of Haute-Garonne (RHE31), Isère, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie (RHEOP), but there is no epidemiological surveillance system to estimate the national prevalence of ASD in the general population. However, the production of reliable epidemiological data at the national and territorial levels is essential for addressing the needs of individuals with ASD and for evaluating public policies. The main objective of our project is to estimate the annual prevalence of ASD in children, adolescents, and young adults at the national and regional levels using medico-administrative databases (SNDS), to study its evolution over the period 2010-2019 and its geographical distribution in relation to socio-demographic indicators and healthcare accessibility. Our secondary objectives are to validate an algorithm for detecting ASD in the National Health Data System (SNDS) and to estimate the direct medical costs associated with ASD management. The SNDS databases contain all medical care and treatments reimbursed for Health Insurance beneficiaries provided in the private or public sector. A case detection algorithm will be tested and validated on validation samples. Then, the prevalence of ASD will be estimated, taking into account geographical, socio-economic, and healthcare accessibility indicators, in order to study the factors associated with the significant disparity in rates observed in France and abroad. An estimate of direct medical costs will be made from the health insurance perspective. Our project therefore proposes the development of reliable indicators on the management of ASD in France with the aim of providing useful indicators and tools for guiding health and disability policies in France, promoting the development of appropriate interventions, and thus contributing to the improvement of the care and support of individuals with ASD as well as reducing inequalities in access to healthcare for these vulnerable populations.

Flexibility and the Predictive Brain in Autistic Males and Females

The goal of this study is to compare the neural correlates of predictive brain mechanisms during high-level social and non-social flexibility tasks, between autistic and non-autistic males and females. The aim is to better understand if autistic individuals differ from non-autistic individuals in their cognitive flexibility according to the social and predictable nature of the stimuli, at a behavioral and neurofunctional level using the functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). As autistic females usually present a more subtle profile than autistic males, the investigators will also explore if autistic males and females present neurofunctional differences.

Biodiversity Interventions for Assisted Living Centers

Biodiversity is essential for nature and human well-being. Land use has reduced biodiversity in cities, which weakens the functionality of the urban ecosystems and the well-being of citizens. This may also increase the risk of immune-mediated disorders among urban dwellers. In Biodiversity interventions for assisted living centers (BIWE 2), microbial biodiversity interventions are performed to increase biodiversity in urban housing units for people with autism spectrum disorder, disabled people and elderly. Results from the intervention trials are combined with publicly available land cover and ecological data. These are analyzed from the viewpoint of shifts in ecosystems and human well-being and immune regulation, ecological quality, and urban planning. The investigators set up an intervention study in which yards of the housing units are rewilded with diverse vegetation and decaying deadwood and plant residuals. The investigators aim to evaluate the effect of rewilding, and yard management practices on commensal microbiome, cortisol levels and well-being and salivary cytokine levels, and gene pathways.

Effect of Probiotic Compound K11T e K11TMax in ASD

The research is characterized as a randomized, double-blind clinical trial (phase III) in which administered the probiotic K11-T (with and without added amino acids, fatty acids and vitamins) to children between 3 and 11 years old with Autism Spectrum Disorder - ASD, being subsequently assessed outcomes related to inflammatory markers and neuropsychiatric and sociopedagogical criteria. To this end, the study will create three groups, one of which will be a control group, which will receive a placebo, the other will receive the probiotic without micronutrients and another will receive the probiotic with added nutrients.

Investigators will test the impact of the PEACE implementation toolkit and determine the level of implementation support needed to improve early intervention providers use of caregiver coaching with families of young children with autism who receive early intervention services.
