Effectiveness of the Use of the Nintendo Switch Combined With Conventional Therapy in People With Acquired Brain Injury

Purpose: to observe the possible benefits produced by conventional therapy through virtual reality with the Nintendo Switch to try to improve motivation and increase the degree of care satisfaction. The aim is to improve postural control in both seated and standing positions and to maintain and improve cognitive capacity. Material and methods: one group (experimental group) will receive a total of 8 one-hour sessions or 16 half-hour sessions, depending on their individual needs, for 8 weeks using the Nintendo Switch. The other group (control group) will continue to receive their conventional scheduled therapy. Measures: Abilhand, MEC-Lobo, FIST, Fugl-Meyer, Berg Balance Scale and CSQ-8.

Flavanols are compounds present in plants, including apples, berries, peaches, cocoa-derived products and certain beverages like tea. Following intake, they are absorbed and broken down into smaller compounds called 'metabolites'. Some of these metabolites are excreted in urine. In this study, we hope to collect urine and examine the metabolites to learn more about the types and amounts of flavanols that people are consuming as part of their usual diet.

Mechanisms of Exercise-induced Hypoalgesia

This project aims to clarify the mechanisms underpinning the acute analgesic effect of exercise in healthy humans-a phenomenon called "Exercise-induced hypoalgesia" (EIH). This study will characterize, using a within-subject cross-over design, the effects of a single session of aerobic exercise vs. a control condition on the sensitivity to stimuli preferentially activating mechano vs. heat-sensitive nociceptors of the skin vs. muscle, within vs. outside exercising body parts. The investigators hypothesize (1) that EIH will be greater in the exercise session compared to the control session, (2) that EIH will be greater at the local site compared to the remote site if local changes in nociceptive sensitivity contribute to EIH, and (3) that exercise will preferentially affect blunt pressure-induced pain if EIH involves specific changes in sensitivity of muscle nociceptors.

In South America, the prevalence of HBV is variable but high (> 8%) in the Amazon basin. In some areas, a third of HBsAg carriers are also infected with HDV, a major comorbidity factor. The pre-core mutations are associated with the negative HBe Ag phenotype which is associated with a more severe course. These mutations are of increasing and high frequency. French Guiana is populated by populations of African, European and Asian origins with chains of viral transmission which are not known and viruses probably of different origins with variable virulence and transmission potentials.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcome of resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) pretreated with nanostructured alumina coating (NAC). The study adopts a prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blind design contrasting the use of NAC to air-borne particle abrasion (APA) (control) as a surface pretreatment method of zirconia RBFDPs used for replacing missing central or lateral incisors. The primary outcome evaluated is the retention/survival of the zirconia RBFDPs pretreated with APA and NAC.

The Relationship Between Dual-task Gait Performance, Physical Activity Levels, Sleep and Aging in Healthy Adults

The co-ordination and control of body segments are integral in providing and maintaining postural stability. It is widely accepted that attentional demands for postural control are placed upon the individual, but these vary according to the nature of the task, the age of the individual and their postural stability. It is thought that divided attention (a technique whereby two tasks are performed at the same time whilst rapidly switching attention between the two tasks) is commonly used when multi-tasking. Divided attention may have important clinical implications to falls risk, in that older adults that experience falls have increased difficulty in switching attention between tasks such as walking and talking. Dual tasking paradigms which present postural and cognitive tasks are often used to test attentional demands for posture control and interference between the two tasks. At present it is not known what impact balance confidence, sleep, activity levels or cognitive ability impact on a person's ability to multi-task when performing complex walking tasks that reflect the complexity of mobilising in real-life situations.
