Filter by:The increasing rate of usage of smartphones ushers in various health problems and smartphone addiction. In the literature, the research focused mainly on the relationship between smartphone addiction and depression, anxiety and musculoskeletal system problems; however, the number of studies on fatigue was limited. We believe that this paper will be of interest to the readers of your journal because it adds information about the effect of smartphone addiction on physical activity, on sleep quality and especially on fatigue.
In France, consumption levels of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis remain high despite changes in regulations aimed at limiting access to these products and repeated prevention campaigns. The various Presidential Plans for the treatment and prevention of addictions for 2007-2011 and 2018-2022 show the concern of the public authorities on the issue of multiple consumption, encouraging general practitioners to identify and research this issue. In order to better identify and evaluate high-risk cannabis use, the French Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction has developed a detection tool: The Cannabis Abuse Screening Test (CAST). Although recommended in France, this questionnaire has never been tested in real primary care conditions, directly with patients consulting general medicine. The main objective of this study is the validation of a scale for the identification of problematic cannabis use, CAST, with a response modality according to a Likert scale (rated from 0 to 4 : 0 "never", 1 "rarely", 2 "occasionally", 3 "quite often", 4 "very often") or a binary response modality (response by 1 "Yes" or 0 "No") in patients who have used cannabis in the past 12 months, followed in general practice and in 3 age categories (15-18 years, 18-25 years and 25-45 years). The secondary objective is to analyze the polydrug use of alcohol and tobacco, and then the relationship between them and the level of cannabis use. This validation study of diagnostic scales in real-life situations with general medicine patients allows us to focus on the human and social sciences and public health. Although it has now been established that there is a synergy between several addictive substances with respect to cancer risks, few studies have focused on the early identification of misuse or polydrug use. However, it has been shown that general practitioners (GPs) are effective and relevant players in these fields. Because of their holistic vision of the patient, GPs are in the best position to identify consumers at risk of complications without blaming, dramatizing or trivializing. It is therefore necessary to provide GPs with early detection tools to promote contact between these patients and the healthcare system.
Excessive problematic use of the internet has been a topic of discussion in the academic literature for many years and has gained more attention recently. The majority of those at risk are in early adulthood. Pathological internet use (PIU) is also termed internet addiction disorder (IAD), with both terms used to link internet use with addiction terminology. Consistent with other psychiatric conditions such as depression symptoms, PIU prevalence rates among adolescents vary widely from as low as 0.3% to 38%. Likewise, PIU prevalence among college students (young adults) showed a wide variation ranging from 3% to 34%, worldwide. Nowadays, internet gaming addiction became a problematic issue in adolescent. This is a case -control study, aimed to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of internet gaming addiction among adolescents and its relationship with emotion regulation and comorbid psychiatric disorders.
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the group psycho-education program which is prepared as "cognitive behavioural-based", on college students' smartphone dependency levels. The research will be carried out on students studying at a private foundation University in 2019-2020 academic year. In this study, pre-test-final Test control group and follow-up measured experimental pattern will be used to determine the effect of Psycho-education program on smartphone dependency levels of college students. A Personal Information Form and Smartphone Dependency scale will be applied to students who agree to participate in the study. By analysing the data results obtained from the data collection tools and passing the determined limit value, 94 people will be randomly selected, including 47 experiments and 47 control groups, from those who scored high on the smartphone dependency scale through the SPSS program using the power analysis method. Students will be informed about cognitive behavioural based psychoeducation and will be asked if they wish to participate in the training. Psychoeducation Practice 1 day per week, 60-90 min. sessions will take 8 weeks. At the end of the training, the final test will be applied to the experimental and control group. 3rd and 6th month follow-up measurements are planned to be carried out intermittently at the end of the month. In the literature, it is observed that the number of intervention studies is very small, and no clear conclusions have been reached. In addition, the treatment of smartphone addiction in Turkey with cognitive-behavioural approach-based group psychoeducation program has not been studied before. In our country, where smartphone addiction is increasing every day, the importance of intervention efforts in this area is clear. It is anticipated that the intervention study on addiction reduction will be supportive for researchers and will be beneficial for people who need support for smartphone addiction. In this respect, it is thought that it will be a guiding work for future clinical and academic studies.
The aim of this project is to elucidate whether impairments of cognitive control, performance-monitoring, and value-based decision-making and dysfunctional interactions between underlying brain systems are mediating mechanisms and vulnerability factors for daily self-control failures and addictive disorders.
The management of the craving is a key element in addiction treatment as the craving is linked to the probability of relapse. Several cues could induce the craving, some generic substance-induced cues or addictive behavior-related cues (e.g. gambling-related cues), and also some more subject-specific cues. The awareness of the craving intensity and its individual cues for each patient will allow the clinician to tailor a better treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of a program based on an Individually Adjusted Therapy scale added to a treatment as usual for the treatment of addiction.
Individuals indicating risky substance use are randomly assigned either to a three-month online intervention on the Workit Health platform or a waitlist/treatment as usual. Those randomized to treatment will report reduced consumption of alcohol and other drugs and higher quality of life at study conclusion.
This study will examine differences in habituation to foods high in sugar and fat content versus those that are not, in normal weight women.
The aim of this cohort study is to observe the prevalence, incidence, relapse, and remission rates of online and/or smartphone game addiction among elementary and secondary school students in Korea. In addition the investigators are going to identify risk and protective factors, to determine whether online and/or smart phone game addiction is a primary or secondary problem, and to identify outcomes for individuals who become or stop being online and smart phone game addiction.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether essential polyunsaturated acids (omega 3) are capable of reducing chocolate craving symptoms in healthy patients. Our hypothesis is that the omega 3 fatty acids have properties which stabilize and normalize neuronal functioning in many conditions, including chocolate craving.
