The Comparative Efficacy of an Over the Counter Light Therapy Mask vs Over the Counter Topical Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% and Used in Combination With Over the Counter Adapalene Gel 0.1% for Mild to Moderate Acne

This is a single-center prospective study of two standard-of-care treatments to evaluate the efficacy of the Neutrogena® Light Therapy Acne Mask an Over the Counter (OTC) Blue/Red light LED mask, as compared to the combination of topical OTC benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel and OTC adapalene 0.1% gel, for the treatment of mild-to-moderate facial acne. This will be an investigator-blinded, randomized, 12-week study to observe these over the counter treatments. The two arms will be: (1) Neutrogena® Light Therapy Acne Mask (MASK), (2) topical OTC benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel and OTC adapalene 0.1% gel (TOP). Both treatment groups in this study will also receive and use standardized, non-medicated cleansing and moisturizing products. All products will be purchased through commercial sources.

Pain Outcomes Following Intralesional Corticosteroid Injections

Corticosteroid therapy, including intralesional and topical applications, has many indications within the fields of Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, and Orthopedics. However, these injections can be quite painful, which leads many patients to discontinue treatment. Often, the injection involves a mixture of local anesthetic and corticosteroids despite a lack of evidence that the use of lidocaine improves pain. Due to the acidic pH, the lidocaine component of the injection can actually cause a significant burning sensation during the procedure. Lidocaine does not have anti-inflammatory properties and does not treat the underlying pathology. By including another medication, lidocaine also adds cost and risk to the procedure. The purpose of this study is to see if removing lidocaine from intralesional injections decreases the pain of injection.

With 24 million results associated with Google's searchon keywords "severe acne", Pr Dreno's team understand better thatthis disease, which affects many French people, is a real concern of Public Health and not a "forced evil" of the adolescent period, which will eventually resolve itself. Acne does not affect the vital prognosis, but its psychosocial impact is major and should not be underestimated. Paradoxically, despite the high prevalence of acne, few quality epidemiological studies have been published. Physicians are often helpless when faced with patients' questions. They often need a lot of explanations, especially on the factors aggravating this dermatosis, which greatly affects their quality of life. This cohort, the first of its kind in France, will determine the predictive factors of therapeutic response, endogenous and environmental factors impacting on the severity of acne assess the quality of life and psychological impact of acne patients, determine the patient's course of care and the associated costs. Pr Dreno's team will also build up a bio collection (bacteriological samples).

The Use of Oracea and Epiduo Forte in Severe Acne Patients

All subjects will receive Oracea once daily (QD) and Epiduo Forte at Baseline. We will evaluate Investigator Global Assessment (IGA), total lesion count, inflammatory lesion count, non-inflammatory lesion count, adverse events and concomitant medications.
