Correct Timing of Head Imaging in Trauma

The aims of this retrospective and monocentric observational study are: to describe patient characteristics and clinical management of patients with traumatic brain injury taking antiplatelet and/or anticoagulation drugs; to estimate the proportion of patients who suffer an adverse outcome; to assess the risk for serious events (intracranial haemorrhage, in-hospital mortality, need for surgery); to identify potential predictors of outcome and assess potential differences between anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy. All patients with mild brain injury and anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy who underwent a head computed tomography (CT) scan admitted to the emergency department (ED) of the University Hospital of Padova, Italy, from 01/01/2010 to 31/12/2020.

Prevalence, Severity, Risk Factors, and Prognostic Value of Hyponatremia in Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury

Hyponatremia (HN) is the most common electrolytic disorder in the traumatic brain injury (TBI) population, found in 17 to 51% of patients according to the series. Two etiologies predominate in the literature, the Syndrome of Inappropriate Anti Diuretic Hormone (SIADH) and the Cerebral Salt Waste Syndrome (CSW), but none has been precisely described in terms of epidemiology, risk factors or severity. Moreover, SIADH and CSH were often confused in previous works. The main goal of our study is to assess retrospectively prevalence, severity, time to onset, length, risk factors of HN in a large population of TBI patients, as well as treatment modalities and prognosis. A specific distinction was performed between SIADH or CSW.

Human Impact Exposure Onboard High-Speed Boats

Operating high-speed boats is dangerous. The purpose of this study is to establish what levels and what characteristics of impact exposure cause injuries. Impact-induced injuries are sometimes severe and cause permanent disabilities. The slamming-impact exposure causes more injuries per workday than seen in most other peacetime work. 12. It is however NOT known which levels or kinds of impacts are dangerous and which are safe or sustainable. To prevent injuries and to reduce fatigue onboard high-speed boats, this knowledge is crucial. Current standards and regulations lack relevance. They are based on mean values of vibrations, and the stated exposure limit values are impossible to comply with even in normal maritime operations. The purpose of this study is to establish what levels and what characteristics of impact exposure cause injuries. This prospective observation study will measure human impact exposure and correlate this to the occurrence and development of pain, used to indicate the risk of injury.

Injury Prevention in Danish Youth Handball

The primary aim of this hybrid-effectiveness-implementation cluster randomised study is to investigate if a supported implementation of an injury prevention exercise program (Happy program) involving a train-the-trainer workshop and coach support during the season is superior to an unsupported implementation of the Happy program involving the availability of the program on webpages, in improving adherence (volume, frequency, duration) of the Happy program among coaches for young (11-17 years of age) Danish female and male handball players during one handball season. Secondary aims are to investigate if the supported implementation is superior to the unsupported implementation in improving behavioural outcomes among the coaches and in reducing the risk for new ankle, knee, and shoulder injuries among young (11-17 years of age) Danish female and male handball players during one handball season. Further, the investigators aim to evaluate how and why adherence and behavioural determinants towards use of the Happy program might improve (or not).
