NCT ID: NCT04099810 Completed - Clinical trials for Ventricular Function

Assessment of Right Ventricular Volume in Pediatric Patients

Start date: October 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Most publication are basing RV volumes on images acquired from the apical window. However, some data have called the practice of basing these images on apical window into question. Moreover, despite our best efforts, we have been unable, in our laboratory to reliably visualize RV outflow from the apical view. Therefore, with an identified group of trained sonographers, we plan to conduct a head-to-head comparison of RV volumes acquired from these two windows (apical and subcostal), with comparison to gold-standard CMR.

NCT ID: NCT03707249 Completed - Iron-deficiency Clinical Trials

Iron Status and Cardiopulmonary Physiology

Start date: January 19, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study involved human volunteers undertaking a high-altitude expedition. It assessed changes in physiological parameters of relevance to high-altitude cardiopulmonary physiology. Participants included a subgroup of those taking part in an existing adventurous training expedition and were randomised in a 1:1 fashion to receive either intravenous iron or normal saline several weeks prior to departure. During the expedition, participants were investigated by means of transthoracic echocardiography, peripheral oxygen saturation measurement and heart rate monitoring and through the drawing of venous blood samples. Bloods were later analysed for markers of iron status.

NCT ID: NCT02790008 Completed - Fibrosis Clinical Trials

Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Fibrosis

MRF
Start date: June 2015
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Aortic valve disease causes impaired let ventricular function (LVF) due to hypertrophy, dilatation and diffuse myocardial fibrosis yet the prognostic effect of fibrosis, waiting time for operation and postoperative exercise training is presently unknown. The investigators aim to (1) determine the changes in LVF for patients on the waiting list; (2) establish non-invasive diagnostics for diffuse myocardial fibrosis; (3) relate LVF to fibrosis and physical capacity. The unique design (echocardiography, cardiopulmonary exercise test, cardiac magnetic resonance tomography and myocardial biopsy on the same patients) makes it possible to establish relationship between results of histology and imaging; quantifying and qualifying fibrosis in vivo, evaluate LVF vs. general cardiopulmonary function and optimize health care prior to and after operation.

NCT ID: NCT01014572 Completed - Clinical trials for Ventricular Function

The Effect of Exercise and Alagebrium on the Diastolic Function of the Heart

AGE
Start date: July 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether an investigational drug (Alagebrium (generic: ALT-711), a type of medication referred to as an advanced glycaton end-product clever) can be combined with exercise training to reverse the stiffening of the heart that takes place naturally with aging.

NCT ID: NCT00575692 Completed - Clinical trials for Pulmonary Hypertension

Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Diagnosis of Pulmonary Hypertension

Start date: December 2006
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The aim of the present study is to identify changes in the cardiovascular system in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI is accepted as golden standard method for the evaluation of left and right ventricular morphology and function. All patients who showed elevated pulmonary pressure in the right heart catheter investigation are assigned to MRI. Parameters derived from MRI are included in the clinical and therapeutic decisions. Well established as well as new MRI parameters are evaluated and compared to the results of right heart catheter. Further age-matched controls without known cardiac or pulmonary disease are investigated by native MRI.
