Filter by:The purpose of this study is to gain insights in the pharmacokinetics of golimumab in moderate to severe Ulcerative Colitis after subcutaneous administration, during induction and maintenance treatment the investigators will collect blood and stool samples at different time points.
Background: Curcumin in an active phytochemical substance, used as part of the human diet, that has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties which were demonstrated in multiple experimental models of colitis including a positive effect on maintenance of remission in adult ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. Objectives: To examine the effect of curcumin as complementary medication in induction and maintenance therapy in pediatric patients with mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. Design: A prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled study. Setting: Pediatric gastroenterology centers. Participants: Children 6 year to 18 years who are diagnosed with mild to moderate UC and are planned to receive either 5-ASA or corticosteroids induction treatment. Main outcome measures: Disease activity defined by the Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis Activity Index (PUCAI) at 2 weeks and 6 months. Secondary outcome measures: Effect of curcumin treatment on serum inflammatory markers, calprotectin and fecal microbiota. Data analysis: Data will be collected and analyzed using SPSS (version 21.0, SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Fisher's exact test will be used to explore univariate associations between primary outcomes and categorical variables. Associations of continues variables with primary outcome measures will be examined using ANOVA with repeated measures. P-values <0.05 will be considered significant.
This case-control study will screen for dysmenorrhea and assess severity of menstrual symptoms in menstruating women with CD and UC compared with healthy age-matched controls. IBD activity will be characterized using previously validated clinical disease activity indices. General and health-related quality of life will be assessed using validated measures.
This research study is about adding Black Raspberry powder to the treatment regimen of patients with ulcerative colitis who are currently in remission and doing well.
Clinical experience show limited effect of the drug Loperamide used to decrease output in stoma patients. Therefore the investigators see the need for a randomized blinded clinical trial to determine the effect of Loperamide opposite Placebo. Loperamide will be evaluated in relation to the following parameters - Change in ileostomy output in g/day in relation to oral intake - Quantification of the change in intestinal transit time using a radiopaque marker - The patient´s own assessment on which period they received Loperamide or Placebo

Bioactive compounds from mango are bioavailable and their anti-inflammatory efficacy has been demonstrated in animals and humans. However, the efficacy of mangoes has not previously been compared with respect to mild inflammatory bowel disease. In order to justify future pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analyses in human clinical trials, a pilot assessment to determine efficacy in preventing or resolving Inflammatory bowel disease is a necessary step. Therefore, in this aim we will determine the clinical relevance of mango as an adjuvant treatment to conventional therapy in Inflammatory bowel disease . The effects of mango with common drug treatment in mild-moderate Inflammatory bowel disease will be compared to the drug-treatment alone. If mango or any other polyphenolic-rich food could be identified as helpful in shortening or reducing severity of episodes of inflammatory bowel disease, the addition of polyphenolics to conventional drug treatment in Inflammatory bowel disease would have a significant impact on public health.
Manipulation of the intestinal microbiota through FMT is a potential therapeutic target for IBD patients. Studies are now required to determine if repeated FMT can overcome the apparent immune response to FMT thereby maintaining sustained clinical improvement and remission. Prior to a large randomized controlled trial of FMT in UC we will carry out a feasibility study to determine if serial FMTs can sustain a clinical response and maintain stability of transplanted microbiota.
