Filter by:It has been shown that insulin might be involved in the pathogenesis of thyroid growth. Objective To evaluate the impact of IR and metformin use on the volume of benign thyroid nodules (TNs). Methods A randomized clinical trial to placebo (P) or MTF use. Previous fine needle aspiration confirming the diagnosis is necessary to inclusion. Patients will receive similar tablets of MTF and placebo and instruct to take 3 tablets/day of MTF (500mg/tablet). Thyroid volume, as TN volume, will be assess by ultrasound, both in the beginning, six months and one year after randomization, by the same researcher blinded regarding location group. Blood samples to measure: TSH, FT4, TPO-Ab, lipid profile, glucose and insulin were done after 8h fasting.
This phase II trial studies how well atezolizumab in combination with chemotherapy works in treating patients with anaplastic or poorly differentiated thyroid cancer. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as atezolizumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Vemurafenib and cobimetinib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Drugs such as nab-paclitaxel and paclitaxel work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. This trial is being done to see if atezolizumab in combination with chemotherapy works better in treating patients with anaplastic or poorly differentiated thyroid cancer compared to standard treatments.
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in China. Even though advances in the field of breast cancer therapeutics, chemotherapy remains the mainstay therapeutic modality. The cytotoxic therapies are generally associated with some immediate or otherwise delayed side effects, such as adverse effects on gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal and hematological systems. The effect of chemotherapy on endocrine system, however, is comparatively less envisaged. Several epidemiological studies show a positive association between plasma thyroid hormones levels and breast cancer risk. Thyroid dysfunction is emerging as a variably common endocrine toxicity of several anticancer drugs. Due to the scarcity of data on the functioning of thyroid gland during chemotherapy in a large scale group, the present study was aimed to investigate the incidence of thyroid abnormity in Chinese women with newly diagnosed breast cancer, and also the effects of chemotherapy on thyroid gland functions or structure in these breast cancer patients undergoing at least four cycles of chemotherapy.
This clinical trial studies how well ultrasound elastography works in assessing the cancer status of potentially malignant thyroid nodules.
The purpose of this registry is to collect uniform genomics-centered data on patients with nodular thyroid disease and cancer in a prospective fashion. After initial clinical evaluation patients with thyroid nodules will undergo standard ultrasonographic evaluation and a needle biopsy of the thyroid (fine needle aspiration (FNA) or core biopsy) as clinically indicated. Biopsy samples will be evaluated cyto-pathologically. A molecular/genomic profiling will be obtained using Thyroseq v2 test. Surgical treatment will be performed as per clinically determined indications. Standard surgical pathology will be processed and reported per the institutional policy and procedures. A molecular/genomic profiling will be obtained using Thyroseq v2 on the surgical specimen. All patients undergoing thyroid nodule work-up may be enrolled. The registry will collect patient demographic and clinical data, cytopathology reports, and surgical pathology reports and slides (if/when a review is required).
This is a non-randomized, phase II, open label study of Apatinib Mesylate in patients with with locally advanced or metastatic differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of apatinib in patients with locally advanced or metastatic differentiated thyroid carcinoma.
The investigation of thyroid nodules is limited by the fact that up to 49% of the fine needle aspirations (FNA) performed are of "indeterminate cytological signification". Moreover, no fully reliable molecular marker for thyroid cancer have been described. The goal of this project is to study the expression of a specific kind of protein convertase in benign and in malignant thyroid nodules to determine its potential as a biomarker.
Thyroid surgery has been developed as a new technique for zero scar in surgery by applying transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy with sublingual approach. The new technique is locating the surgery which pierced through floor of mouth, cause severe tissue damage, high complication, and conversion rates to open surgery and surgical difficulties due to limitation of movement. Nevertheless, each report is still including small number of patients. Recently, the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) has been proven feasible and safe in several overseas centers. Moreover, a successful TOETVA case was reported in local media in the late last year. Hence, this study is for evaluating the feasibility and safety of the TOETVA prospectively at a tertiary referral center in Hong Kong. The following are the procedure of the study: 1. Recruit patients from the clinic. 2. Patients will receive treatment within 3 months 3. Patients will have different assessments like Ultrasonography assessment, Fine needle biopsy, Direct laryngoscopy, and Cosmectic scoring in Pre-operation, post-operation 2 week, post 1 month, post 3 month, post 6 month and post 12 month. 4. Patients will be monitoring by the same team after the study.
Although it is now recognized that a variety of respiratory abnormalities, such as diaphragmatic dysfunction, can be present in primary hypothyroidism and reverse with adequate hormone treatment, the role of thyroid hormone replacement therapy on respiratory system in patients with the nonthyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) remains to be clarified. The NTIS has been found to be an independent risk factor for prolonged (> 13 days) mechanical ventilation. It is unclear, however, whether the NTIS is only a biochemical prognostic marker or it actually contributes to the development and progression of respiratory failure. The aim of this study will be to assess respiratory muscle function after thyroid hormone substitution therapy in mechanically ventilated patients with the NTIS.
This is an open-label, first-in-human study designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK) and preliminary anti-tumor activity of selpercatinib (also known as LOXO-292) administered orally to participants with advanced solid tumors, including rearranged during transfection (RET)-fusion-positive solid tumors, medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) and other tumors with RET activation.
