Filter by:This research is being done to evaluate the safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant lenvatinib on surgical outcomes of patients with invasive extrathyroidal differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). This research study involves a study drug called lenvatinib
Open label randomized controlled study, for Harmonic versus Ligasure in transoral endoscopic thyroid surgery.
Intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICU-AW) is the most common neuromuscular impairment in critically ill patients. It affects more than 50 % of patients in the intensive care and is related to many problems as difficult weaning from mechanical ventilation, prolonged hospital stay and increased mortality.Thyroid disorders are also associated with neuromuscular abnormalities and may decrease the threshold for the development of any type of myopathy. However, no previous study investigated the direct relationship between thyroid dysfunction and ICUAW.This study aims at evaluation of the association between thyroid dysfunction and intensive care unit acquired weakness.
Thyroid nodules are a common finding in the general population, however, they are mostly unpalpable and usually discovered either during neck ultrasound (US) examination or by pathological examination at autopsy. They are found in about 8% of adults. Most thyroid nodules ''incidentalomas" are benign, however 7% may be malignant. Early detection of thyroid cancer helps in early treatment and better survival US is an accurate method for detection of thyroid nodules; however, US has a low accuracy in differentiating between benign from malignant thyroid nodules . US could suggest a malignancy likelihood criteria of a thyroid nodule, such as hypoechogenicity, increased intranodular vascularity, irregular margins, microcalcifications, absent halo, and a taller-than-wide shape measured in the transverse dimension.
This study includes papillary thyroid cancer patients who have unpalpable lateral neck lymph nodes but suspicious on ultrasound and/or CT. Carbon nanoparticles is used as the tracer for lateral neck lymph node mapping.
The primary objective of this clinical trial is to assess the safety and tolerability of sub-tenon aflibercept in combination with either saline or hyaluronidase (HA) in patients with acute Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) as assessed by the incidence and severity of adverse events from baseline to day 45. Participants will undergo clinical examinations and receive three injections of aflibercept with saline, aflibercept with hyaluronidase, or hyaluronidase.
To determine the efficacy and safety of Anlotinib in patients of locally advanced thyroid cancer in the neoadjuvant setting.
A 2-years prospective, randomized and multicentric study will be performed to assess the efficacy of metformin compared to sitagliptin on benign thyroid nodules size ≥ 2 cm, in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes.
Full intellectual capabilities are achieved only if crucial nutrients are present during development. Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of preventable brain harm in infants. Because of its critical need during pregnancy, several countries implemented programs of iodine supplementation in preconception and pregnancy. In 2013, the prevalence of iodine deficiency in Portugal has led health authorities to issue a recommendation for iodine supplementation. This study aims to evaluate the impact of iodine supplementation on maternal and fetal iodine status and thyroid function, obstetric outcomes, quality of breast milk and child psychomotor development. It also intends to evaluate whether the time of iodine supplementation initiation influences all the above-mentioned parameters. The novelty and relevance of this study reside on the number of women/child and on the extent of health parameters that will be evaluated. The information collected will contribute to the detailed characterization of thyroid hormone homeostasis throughout pregnancy and its relationship with iodine supplementation (including time of initiation). The data will provide evidence on whether this iodine supplementation strategy impacted on iodine sufficiency of the mother and the newborns, or if it needs re-evaluation.
The aim is to validate a signature of microRNA (micro Ribonucleic acid) based in a first exploratory study allowing the stratification of the cytologies of indeterminate type and to study and select others. In a first step, the teams will focus on standardising the pre-analytical stages and defining a threshold of positivity. The results of microRNA signature on a cohort of 70 patients will be compared with the ultrasound and then histological data of the resection specimen.
