Filter by:In the department for substance use disorders at Uppsala University Hospital there are two wards. One that is locked, where the patients that are emitted can not go out to smoke and another ward where there is a possibility to go out and smoke during the day. The smoking habits on those two floors will be compared and how they feel about smoking will be evaluated when they are admitted to the ward, at discharge, after 1 mont and after 6 months.
The purpose of this clinical study is to examine the established, therapeutic EMDR intervention for patients with substance use disorders (SUD). The EMDR method is an integrative and structured therapeutic method which assumes that memories which have been dysfunctionally stored can lead to harmful behavior. The EMDR protocol used for this clinical trials has been specifically developed for patients with SUD - the results should be compared with traditional therapy. For the assessment of the EMDR treatment some questionnaires are given at several times.
This study is a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of cytidine-5'-diphosphate choline in amphetamine-type stimulants-using adolescents.
1. A randomized trial of 3-dimensional vs. 2-dimensional ultrasound, comparing scores on the Maternal Antenatal Attachment Scale (MAAS), a validated instrument measuring maternal attachment as a marker of maternal bonding. The hypothesis is that 3-dimensional ultrasound is better at eliciting maternal attachment than 2-D 2. To assess changes in maternal confidence to stop using drugs and quit/reduce smoking with 3-D vs. 2-D ultrasound. Again, the hypothesis is that 3-D ultrasound will improve the woman's confidence to stop using substances. 3. To evaluate if 3-D ultrasound improves paternal attachment as measured by pre- and post- scores on the Paternal Antenatal Attachment Scale (PAAS). The hypothesis is that 3-D ultrasound will have a greater effect on PAAS scores than 2-D.
The influence of genes on addictive and neuropsychiatric disorders is complex, especially given that multiple genes likely influence certain behaviors that are correlated with addiction. Researchers are interested in looking at the genetic information of individuals who are enrolled on National Institute for Drug Abuse studies to investigate specific genetic variants that may be related to substance abuse. Researchers will study the effects of genes on several aspects of thinking such as attention, memory, decision making, problem solving, learning, and emotional feelings, and investigate the ways in which genetic information affects addictive behaviors and substance abuse. In addition, researchers will study how genes may explain differences in imaging data in substance users. Objectives: - To collect genetic information for research on genetic aspects of addiction and substance abuse. Eligibility: - Adults age 18 or older - (1) healthy, non-drug-using nonsmokers, - (2) healthy smokers, - (3) healthy individuals dependent on other commonly abused drugs, and - (4) individuals with other psychiatric disorders. - Participants must be enrolled in another National Institute on Drug Abuse, Intramural Research Program imaging protocol. Design: - This study involves one to two visits to National Institute on Drug Abuse, Intramural Research Program that may be separate from the participant's current research protocol study visits or on the same day as those visits. - Participants will provide a blood sample and complete questionnaires about mood, memory, and learning. - Participants may also be asked to do a few tasks, such as playing computer games involving coin tosses and money management, or responding to questions on a computer screen.
