Filter by:Investigators hypothesize that in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) the severity of periodontal disease is significantly higher compared to patients without OSA in every aspect, including PI, PD, CAL and BOP. The number of lost teeth is hypothesized to be also higher in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Purpose: evaluation of periodontal status in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. An analytical cross-sectional study will be conducted at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of the Sechenov University, Moscow. Investigators are planning to recruit 100 patients: 1) patients with OSA confirmed by polysomnography -75 participants aged between 35 and 65; 2) patients without OSA -25 participants of a similar age. Patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome will be sub-divided into three sub-groups according to OSA severity: 2A group - patients with mild apnea severity; 2B group - patients with medium apnea severity; 2C group - patients with severe apnea. All participants will undergo a dental examination including the following parameters: plaque index (PI; Silness & Loe, 1964), bleeding on probing (BOP), and touch depth of the pocket (PD), the level of clinical attachment loss (CAL). Investigators will also evaluate the number of lost teeth.
This is a randomized, 4-period, placebo-controlled, crossover, phase 2 clinical study to examine the efficacy and safety of AD109 versus its individual components or placebo in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of barbed suture modification of anterior palatoplasty in the treatment of patients with retropalatal mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).
This is an R01 funded project that focuses on the utility of metabolomics as a biomarker for OSA. Aims 1 and 3 leverages banked samples previously collected from subjects with and without OSA at the University of Pennsylvania and University of Iceland. Aim 2 is a prospective study that will collect serum samples from OSA subjects at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Iceland.
This study assesses the efficacy of sugammadex against neostigmine for hastening recovery from neuromuscular blockade and optimizing pulmonary function in obese patients with obstructive sleep apnea presenting for outpatient surgery. Both drugs are used in anesthesiology to reverse neuromuscular blockade that is given in the setting of inducing and maintaining general anesthesia.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of video consultation versus face-to-face consultation for patients with obstructive sleep apnea on patients' CPAP use (minutes/per night), self-efficacy, risk outcomes, outcome expectancies, experiences with technology and, patients' and nurses' satisfaction.
The investigators propose a study to formally compare two Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) follow-up pathways: 1) Usual care - follow-up visits reflect standard care practice and we rely on patients to reach out to us if they are struggling with therapy (there will be no active outreach); 2) Case Management - in addition to "Usual Care" visits, patients CPAP use will be monitored and further encounters may be initiated with "struggler" CPAP users while "successful" users are passively followed. The investigators will evaluate measures of CPAP adherence, patient engagement and cost-effectiveness for the duration of 1 year. Our hypothesis is that "Case Management" will improve CPAP adherence and cost-effectiveness compared to "Usual Care". The investigators also hypothesize that targeting "strugglers" only in a management by exception (MBE) approach will be equally effective, but require less personnel time compared to targeting "all" patients.
Obstructive sleep apnoea is the most common sleep disorder in general population, and is often associated with cognitive deficit, mood disorders, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, excessive daytime somnolence, nicturia and an increased cardiovascular and metabolic risk. The gold standard of treatment is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), but the adherence is often poor. The aim of our study is to investigate the effort based-decision making in patients with OSA, pre and post CPAP treatment, as a possible cause of poor adherence.
Prospective multicenter open-label randomized clinical trial comparing videoconsultation to a face-to-face consultation during the follow-up of apneic patients treated by continuous positive pressure (CPAP) .
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is common and has major health implications but treatment options are limited. Some OSA patients with low arousal threshold wake up prematurely during an obstructive event and do not have time for spontaneous upper airway (UA) dilator muscle recruitment. As a consequence they are exposed to apnea and hypopnea cycling. In this protocol the investigators will test the effect of DAW2020 administered before sleep on OSA phenotype traits and OSA severity during sleep.
