The study is designed to identify the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) for intravitreal (IVT) administration of GEM103 in subjects with geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to dry AMD. Safety and tolerability of a single dose of GEM103 will be assessed based on the occurrence of dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs). Each subject will be followed for safety, pharmacokinetic (PK), clinical, and biomarker evaluations. Three escalating dose cohorts are planned.

Retinal artery microvascular disease has been shown to directly correlate with coronary artery disease. Retinal artery calibre screening via the Optic Coherence Tomography (OCT) will provide a non-invasive method of diagnosing CAD.

Accuracy of the Red Reflex Test in the Pediatric Population

This study is designed to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of the Red Reflex Test (RRT), with and without dilation, for early detection of ocular abnormalities in children and newborns. The RRT functions by shining a light from an ophthalmoscope into a participant's eye and noting the presence or absence of a red glow. Despite its use in pediatric clinics for years, this test at times fails to detect significant ocular diseases, especially located in the back of the eye, threatening visual development in this population. Therefore, the investigators aim to quantify the utility of this test as a tool for screening by comparing these findings on RRT with those of retinal photography. The investigators hypothesize that the sensitivity and specificity of the RRT will be sufficient for detecting anterior segment pathology but will be insufficient for detecting posterior segment pathology with or without dilation.

Pain During Pars Plana Vitrectomy With Sub-tenon Anesthesia

Vitreoretinal surgery has evolved to less invasive procedures, and it is used to treat a wide range of diseases. So anesthesia for vitreoretinal procedures has evolved, promoting adequate analgesia while reducing risks to the patient. In the present study two types of procedures for anesthesia during vitreoretinal surgery are evaluated regarding the pain referred by the patient during the whole procedure: peribulbar anesthesia versus sub-tenon injection plus topical jelly anesthesia. Through the comparative analysis of the pain scale of the two groups it is expected that the two modalities present the same anesthetic efficacy, showing that the methods used may be equivalent.

The Effect of Eyemasks on Neonatal Stress Following Dilated Retinal Examination

Although screening exams for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) prevent blindness they are physiologically stressful for infants. The investigators postulate that photosensitivity during mydriasis contributes to post-examination stress and that reducing light stimulation with a phototherapy mask can make infants more comfortable. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of a phototherapy mask worn during mydriasis on infant stress in the 12 hour period following ROP screening.
