Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Cardiac Rehabilitation: Impact on Health Care

Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) programs are a multidisciplinary process aimed at patient recovery after an acute cardiovascular event or with chronic heart disease, reducing mortality and morbidity, optimising functional capacity and improving quality of life. The aim is to maintain or recover the patient's clinical, physical and psychosocial condition, slowing down or halting the progression of the underlying disease process. It is based on the practice of personalized physical exercise and the adaptation of behaviours towards a healthier lifestyle, ensuring the reduction and control of risk factors. It is considered a cost-effective intervention that is explicitly and formally recommended by the most diverse and important scientific societies. Through the partnership and collaboration between the various health institutions and the academy, the CR program will take place on an outpatient basis, in a supervised manner, starting after risk stratification with a stress test and respective clinical assessment by a cardiologist. The coordinator of the CR program will be a cardiologist, and the entire multidisciplinary team will be responsible for effectiveness and safety, as well as patient assessment and progress.

A Novel Balance Program to Improve Balance in People With Parkinson's Disease

The purpose of this exploratory single-blinded randomized control trial is to explore the effects of a lateral stepping program integrated into an existing community-based group exercise program for people with PD. The researchers hypothesize that participation in a lateral stepping program a minimum of 2 times/week for 8 weeks, in addition to RSB class participation, will decrease fall risk factors, increase balance confidence, and decrease fear of falling in participants in the experimental group compared to the control group. The researchers also hypothesize that the integration of this program into an existing community-based RSB program will be deemed feasible as shown by the number of sessions attended by each participant and their satisfaction

Feasibility and Acceptance of Changes in Medical Supervision of Exercise Groups in Cardiac Rehabilitation

Exercise groups are a form of rehabilitation sport that is offered to cardiac patients (e.g. after a heart attack) in long-term rehabilitation. In Germany, the constant presence of a physician is mandatory. In order to meet the increasing demand for heart groups, the present study implements emergency care during the heart group sessions with three alternatives: paramedics, physician-on-call or specially trained instructors. In the present study the investigators compare these alternatives (three experimental conditions) with the conventional way (control condition). Perceived safety, trust, acceptance and organisational feasibility are the main outcomes of the study. The methods used are questionnaires to the participants, instructors, organizers and, if applicable, paramedics. Additionally, partially structured interviews with attending physicians are conducted according to an interview guide.
