Filter by:During menopause, women may experience many conditions and symptoms due to fluctuation in hormone levels. These symptoms can affect a woman's social and personal functioning and quality of life. The symptoms and quality of life experienced by women during menopause are closely related to health literacy and digital literacy levels. Women in the menopausal period often turn to alternative and complementary practices to cope with the symptoms. They obtain this information from Web 2.0 technologies (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and other sources on the internet, along with the innovations brought by the developing world. However, they do not have enough skills to question the reliability and accuracy of the information sources they obtain. In this context, digital literacy emerges as a new concept in today's digital transformation. Digital Literacy is the awareness, attitude and ability of individuals to use digital tools and possibilities appropriately to identify, access, manage, integrate, evaluate, analyze and synthesize digital resources, create new information, create media expressions and communicate with others. With the developing technology and widespread use of the internet, the impact of the information obtained from digital platforms on the current health literacy and quality of life of women is gaining importance. In the literature, it has been determined that the relationship between digital literacy, health literacy and quality of life has been examined in different samples such as the elderly and individuals with chronic diseases. However, no research has been found in the literature examining the effect of a planned digital literacy education specific to menopause on the health literacy and quality of life of postmenopausal women. The age group in which the research is planned is a group that can use Web 2.0 technologies (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and other sources on the internet, but we think that they have limited information about accessing information sources and examining the accuracy of the information they have obtained. In this context, we believe that a planned digital literacy education specific to menopause will increase the health literacy and quality of life of postmenopausal women.
Despite it being one of the leading causes of cancer death among women, survival following a breast cancer diagnosis has greatly increased in high-income countries. However; this gave rise to a growing population of women living long after breast cancer with a diminished quality of life (QoL) due to the long-term effects of cancer and cancer treatment. Exercise can improve QoL, fatigue, and other mental and physical health outcomes in this population, and is strongly recommended among breast cancer survivors, much like a healthy diet. However adherence in real-life to these recommendations is seldom satisfactory. Also, evidence regarding the effect and cost-effectiveness of concurrent healthy lifestyle behaviors compared to exercise alone is limited. Hence the need to develop pragmatic (evaluating the effectiveness of interventions in real-life conditions) theoretical-based customized interventions, which aim to improve uptake and instill long-term adherence of health lifestyle among breast cancer survivors. ADA (Activité physique adaptée Doublée d'un Accompagnement spécifique post-cancer) is an integrative intervention based on physical activity, nutrition and supportive care. The interventions aims to improve breast cancer survivors' physical and mental health and instill long-term healthy behaviors. Our study will be a pragmatic two-arm (ADA intervention versus control/usual care) cluster randomized controlled trial which examines the effectiveness of the ADA intervention program. The primary endpoint will be health-related quality of life, as measured at 12-month after the start of the trial. Several secondary outcomes will also be assessed; which include Physical activity level, relationship to food and self-efficacy. The study aims to recruit 160 participants in total, divided into 20 activity groups (clusters) of 8 participants. Primary analyses will be carried out on an intention to treat (ITT) basis, at both cluster and participant level. All statistical analysis will adjust for the clustering of patients within centers as a random effect. The aim of this trial is to provide scientific evidence on the 'real-world' effectiveness of an easily generalizable trial, with clinically-significant outcomes, touching a growing number of cancer survivors.
The currently developed implementation study aims to evaluate if a patient-led home-based follow-up approach is successful, improves quality of life, reduces anxiety and lessens fear of cancer recurrence during the years after surgical treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC).
To evaluate the impact of an adapted online, self-help relationship intervention (supplemented with brief coach calls) for survivors of breast cancer and their partners. Couples will be randomized to receive either the online intervention (Together after Cancer) or usual care (UC) and assessed at baseline, end of the program, and 3 months after randomization.

To test the effects of home-based care on unplanned hospitalization within 6 months among advanced cancer patients with decreased performance status. Home-based care includes education for patients and their family caregivers, home visits by specialized home-based medical staff, and regular status check-ups.
Recent studies have shown that many vitamins, if consumed in high daily dosages or delivered to the colon, can modulate the gut microbiota and their metabolites. In parallel, gut microbiota imbalances are linked to diseases, e.g., obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune diseases, and intestinal inflammatory diseases. Therefore, vitamin administration could offer health benefits beyond those traditionally considered for these nutrients. Earlier, our group investigated the effect of colon-delivered vitamins A, B2, C, D, and E on the gut microbiota using a human clinical trial and showed that vitamin C, B2, and D modulates the human gut microbiome in terms of metabolic activity and bacterial composition. The most distinct effect was that of vitamin C, which significantly increased microbial alpha diversity and fecal short-chain fatty acids compared to the placebo. However, the dose-dependent and combined effect of colon-delivered vitamins on the microbial community and its subsequent impact on host health is unknown. This study will investigate the effect of colon-delivered vitamin C (three dosages) on the gut microbiome.
The goal of this clinical trial is to improve communication among clinicians, patients with memory problems, and their family members. We are testing a way to help clinicians have better conversations to address patients' goals for their healthcare. To do this, we created a simple, short guide called the "Jumpstart Guide." The goal of this research study is to show that using this kind of guide is possible and can be helpful for patients and their families. Patients' clinicians may receive a Jumpstart Guide before the patient's clinic visit. Researchers will compare patients whose clinician received a Jumpstart Guide to patients whose clinician did not receive a guide to see if more patients in the Jumpstart Guide group had conversations about the patient's goals for their healthcare. Patients and their family members will also be asked to complete surveys after the visit with their clinician.
The purpose of this research is to test whether participating in either a physical activity intervention or a series of educational classes will help to preserve exercise capability, heart function, brain-based activities (like memory), and quality of life. Participants will be randomized to 1 of 2 pathways: - First pathway consists of organized health workshops. These workshops are intended to provide information on topics such as proper nutrition, management of stress, sleep practices, and emphasis on a healthy lifestyle that may help the participants through cancer treatment. This pathway will also test whether stretching may help participants through cancer treatment. - Second pathway participants will take part in some unsupervised and some potentially supervised moderate activity sessions each week throughout participants' cancer treatment to take place either remotely or in person, depending on availability of facilities at the time visits are scheduled.
Long-term conventional treatment of chronic hypoparathyroidism does not fully restore calcium homeostasis leading to increased morbidity, emergency events and reduced subjective health status. To further investigate general morbidity, hypocalcemic events, subjective and daily life performance in patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism a standardized interview as well as blood sampling and examinations such as echocardiography and renal ultrasound are performed.
