Conventional Vestibular Training Versus Immersive Virtual Reality- Based Vestibular in Multiple Sclerosis

The effectiveness of convectional vestibular training for balance and dizziness rehabilitation in people with multiple sclerosis has been recently demonstrated in a meta-analysis by this research team (doi: 10.3390/jcm9020590). Furthermore, non-immersive virtual reality-based environments seem to be useful for balance and gait rehabilitation in this population (doi: 10.1177/0269215518768084). However, nothing is known about the feasibility and effectiveness of immersive virtual reality-based rehabilitation in people with multiple sclerosis. The primary aim of this research is to determine the feasibility, safety and effectiveness of an immersive virtual reality-based vestibular training for dizziness, balance and fatigue rehabilitation, compared to conventional vestibular training.

Skills of Home Helpers for a Better Quality of Life for Adults With Huntington's Disease Living at Home

Huntington's disease often brings together 3 types of symptoms at one time or another of the disease during its evolution: motor, cognitive and psychiatric. Management requires comprehensive and multidisciplinary health, social or medico-social support. Its development generates additional difficulties for professionals who very often qualify this disease as "very complex" because it leads to a deep and severe impairment of physical and intellectual capacities. The sick person gradually loses their autonomy and becomes dependent for the acts of daily life, hence the choice of this disease for our study. Our study is focused on the quality of life at home of patients followed by the Angers Reference Center, "expert" on neurogenetic pathologies. Studies focusing on patients' quality of life at home have so far never been undertaken for a rare neurodegenerative disease like Huntington's disease.

Multiple Myeloma (MM) Quality of Life (QOL) Study

The main purpose of this study is to examine differences in quality of life and psychological distress for both Multiple Myeloma patients receiving treatment and their caregivers and to assess patient and caregiver prognostic understanding (understanding of the likely course of a disease over time) of Multiple Myeloma to guide development of more personalized treatment plans. This study looks to further understand quality of life changes throughout multiple myeloma therapy for both patients and caregivers to help determine ways to improve patient and caregiver understanding of illness and in turn, tailor customized treatment that best aligns with patient preferences. The study will use a series of questionnaires to measure quality of life, mood, coping strategies, and prognostic understanding.

COVID-19 - Quality of Life After Infection

This study aims to investigate the quality of life of COVID-19 patients after recovery and discharge from the hospital. Patients following-up at the PWH outpatient clinics will be enrolled for further evaluation via telephone follow-up at one, three, and six months after hospital discharge. SF12, EQ-5D-5L and work status standardized quantitative assessments of quality of life will be implemented via telephone follow-up at these time-points. Previous studies of patients infected with SARS-CoV-1 in 2003 at PWH showed that significant numbers of recovering patients had impaired long-term health status. It is important to see if these same problems also afflict patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the novel coronavirus which causes COVID-19).

The Energy Conservation Education Intervention

Fatigue is the most common symptom reported by 70 - 85 % of people with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) receiving haemodialysis (HD). Educational interventions involving energy conservation strategies are helpful in reducing fatigue. However, the effectiveness of energy conservation has not been previously studied in people with ESKD receiving HD. This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of energy conservation education intervention for people with end-stage kidney disease receiving haemodialysis (EVEREST) in Nepal. Symptom Management Theory (SMT) will guide this study. A pragmatic cluster randomised controlled trial (pCRT) will be conducted in one dialysis centre in Nepal. People on HD who meet the eligibility criteria will be invited to participate. The primary outcome is fatigue severity and the secondary outcome are other renal symptoms, occupational performance and health-related quality of life. Intention to treat analysis will occur and will include a change in the primary and secondary outcome. The study will provide evidence about the feasibility and effectiveness of EVEREST for symptom management.
