Filter by:The aims of this study is to determine the effects of treatment with doxazosin XL 16 mg/d combined with virtual reality (VR) exposure therapy on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The effects of treatment with doxazosin XL 16 mg/d combined with virtual reality (VR) exposure therapy will be assessed in double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The study will enroll 30 participants. The investigators will use a within groups design in which all participants receive both placebo and doxazosin (N=16) with the order counterbalanced across participants. A second group of patients (N=16) will receive both 16mg perindopril and placebo instead of doxazosin/placebo.
Aim The aim is to test whether a short psychotherapeutic intervention targeting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms will have an additional positive effect on the outcomes of the Standard Multidisciplinary Program (SMP) against chronic back pain development.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Cognitive Processing Therapy (cognitive only version; CPT-C) delivered using two different formats in the home setting for the treatment of combat-related PTSD as compared to conventional face-to-face CPT-C delivered in a mental health clinic. The study will include two different formats of in-home therapy: face-to-face in-home CPT-C and tele-behavioral health in-home CPT-C.
This is a 12-week, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, fixed-dose, parallel-group study that will investigate the efficacy and safety of two doses of TNX-102 SL -a sublingual formulation of cyclobenzaprine. Following successful screening and randomization, eligible subjects will return regularly to the study clinic for weekly or biweekly visits for assessments of efficacy and safety.
Twenty six veterans with PTSD and cognitive impairment received 16 weeks of memantine in an open label fashion. Cognition was assessed using the Spatial Span, Logical Memory I, and Letter-Number Sequencing subtests of the Wechsler Memory Scale III (Third edition) and the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). RBANS measures attention, language, visuospatial skills, and immediate and delayed memories. The Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAM-D), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A), Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire (Q-LES-Q), and Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) were used to assess improvement in PTSD symptoms, as secondary outcome measures.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as a common and serious mental health condition, affects about 25% of all military personnel that have served in combat. People suffering from PTSD may experience traumatic flashbacks, trouble sleeping, and problems in their relationships. This study is intended to help identify genes that influence and increase the risk of PTSD, to improve ways of detecting and treating the condition in the future. Previous research has studied genes that increase the risk of PTSD, but none of these have included a Veteran-only population. The current study focuses on US Veterans, utilizing the VA Million Veteran Program (MVP) database of approximately 300,000 participants as of August 2014. In this context, participants with PTSD are referred to as "cases" and Veterans without PTSD are referred to as "controls." This project will be done in three stages. The first stage will look at MVP-obtained data and electronic health record (EHR) data to implement methods for identifying combat-exposed case patients with PTSD and combat-exposed control patients without PTSD. The second stage will assemble and validate a study population of 20,000 participants "including 10,000 combat-exposed Veterans with PTSD as cases and 10,000 combat-exposed Veterans without PTSD as controls. The third stage will conduct genetic analyses ("genotyping") comparing the cases to controls, to identify genes associated with increased risk of developing the condition.
The purpose of the proposed pilot study is to extend previous findings regarding the efficacy of a brief treatment for chronic posttrauma nightmares and sleep problems by integrating this treatment with evidence-based treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) (Resick & Schnicke, 1996) is a well-established and efficacious evidence-based psychological treatment for PTSD in both civilian and veteran populations (Forbes et al., 2012; Monson et al., 2006; Resick et al., 2008; Resick, Nishith, Weaver, Astin, & Feuer, 2002). The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) includes CPT among the first-line treatments for PTSD (National Center for PTSD, 2012). A modified protocol without the utilization of written exposure (CPT-C) may be more effective than the original protocol. However, despite such promising evidence, individuals who experience chronic nightmares and sleep problems tend to show smaller gains and persistent nightmares following PTSD treatment (Nappi, Drummond, & Hall, 2012). Given that nightmares are considered the hallmark of PTSD (Ross, Ball, Sullivan, & Caroff, 1989) and their treatment-resistant nature (Davis & Wright, 2007), specific psychological treatments have been developed to target sleep disturbances and nightmares. Exposure, relaxation, and rescripting therapy (ERRT) is a promising psychological intervention developed to target trauma-related nightmares and sleep disturbances. Though further evidence is needed, ERRT has exhibited strong support in reducing the frequency and intensity of nightmares, as well as improving overall sleep quality in both civilian and veteran samples. In addition, significant decreases in PTSD and depression symptoms have been reported following treatment (Davis et al., 2011; Davis & Wright, 2007; Long et al., 2011; Swanson, Favorite, Horin, & Arnedt, 2009). ERRT is currently an evidence-level B suggested treatment (Cranston, Davis, Rhudy, & Favorite, 2011). There is a call to research suggesting the importance of treatment studies which focus on interventions that integrate nightmare and sleep symptom treatment with evidence-based treatment for PTSD (Nappi et al., 2012). In an effort to respond to this call, we propose to tailor ERRT for use in conjunction with CPT, and preliminarily test ERRT's additive effect to CPT in treating PTSD in community outpatients. We hypothesize that ERRT would increase CPT's treatment efficacy by its specific focus on trauma-related nightmares and sleep disturbances. Sleep difficulties are known to increase tension, and reduce one's ability to cope adaptively (Bonn-Miller, Babson, Vujanovic, & Feldner, 2010; Hofstetter, Lysaker, & Mayeda, 2005; Nishith, Resick, & Mueser, 2001). Thus, with improved sleep an individual may have additional personal coping resources for which s/he can use to address the broader trauma issues (Nappi et al., 2012). To test this integration, we will compare ERRT + CPT, CPT + ERRT, and CPT alone.
This protocol will allow for the implementation of a research registry pertaining to Whole Body Hyperthermia (WBH) use in various subject populations. The primary objective of the proposed study is to determine if WBH can have beneficial effects in various subject populations currently experiencing numerous other comorbidities, and the duration of the effect(s). This protocol is intended to become a secondary resort for individual's interested in receiving a Hyperthermia treatment for potential beneficial gain related to symptoms stemming from comorbidities other than depression (i.e. Fibromyalgia, Perimenopausal symptoms, arthritis, etc). Due to the fact that no external research funding has been acquired for this broad application this protocol is intended to charge a fee for cost covering purposes only. The registry trial will not be limited to only include individuals with major depressive disorder, however, this protocol will allow for an expanded use in all populations (while still excluding subjects based on safety parameters). We will monitor subject's physiological and clinical outcomes (if applicable) from a single Whole Body Hyperthermia treatment in an open fashion (no placebo/control condition). This registry study will include safety assessments 5 days prior to WBH, the day of WBH and 1 week following WBH.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether Riluzole is effective in the augmentation treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that is experienced by Active Duty military service members and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND) veterans who have not had symptom reduction after one or more kinds of medications or therapies.
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the most common disorder among childhood sexual abuse survivors and is associated with substantial psychosocial and medical problems, but evidence-based treatment for PTSD in adolescents is lacking. This study aims to examine the efficacy and effectiveness of prolonged exposure therapy for adolescents with client-centered therapy.
