The Erector Spinae Plane Block (ESPB) is an adequate alternative for pain management after video-assisted thoracoscopy surgery (VATS). The incidence of postoperative chronic neuropathic pain (CNP) and the quality of life (QoL) in patients with ESPB after VATS remain unknown. We hypothesised that patients with ESPB would have a low incidence of acute and CNP and would report a good QoL up to three months after VATS.

Effect of Progressive Relaxation Exercise on Physiological Parameters, Pain, Anxiety in Colorectal Cancer Surgery

This research was carried out as an pre-test/post-test control group experimental design study in order to determine the effect of progressive relaxation exercises on the level of vital sign, pain and anxiety underwent who laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer in patients. This research data was collected between March 2018 and May 2019. The research was carried out with 63 patients (experiment group= 31, control group= 32) who underwent elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery in a general surgery clinic of a university hospital in Istanbul and in accordance with the research criteria. Patients in the experiment group were taught breathing exercises in the preoperative period and on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day after surgery then, progressive relaxation exercise that lasted 15 minutes was applied to the group. Pain (Short McGill Pain Scale) and anxiety (STAI-S Scale) levels of both groups were evaluated in the preoperative and postoperative period. The patient's vital signs, oxygen saturation and serum cortisol level parameters were measured in the same time interval before and after the relaxation exercise. Significance was evaluated at p <0.05 and p<0,001 levels in the analysis of the data. Prior to the study, the consent of the institution and ethics committee, written and verbal patient consent were obtained.

Postoperative Pain Control Using Local Wound Infiltration in Adolescent Idiopathic Surgery

Non-opioid methods of pain management following posterior spinal fusion (PSF) have become increasingly popular given the rise of opioid abuse and opioid-related deaths. Orthopedic surgery remains one of the highest prescribing subspecialties. Local wound infiltration is an effective method of acute pain management following surgical intervention and is the standard in some surgical subspecialties, however, no randomized control trials (RCT) exist in the pediatric spine literature. This would be the first (RCT) to assess the use of local would infiltration in postoperative pain control following PSF for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients (AIS). The primary aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of local wound infiltration with anesthetic agents in reduction of postoperative pain scores and post-operative opioid use during hospital admission following fusion surgery in AIS patients. The proposed single-center, double-blind prospective randomized study will be conducted by recruiting patients meeting the inclusion criteria of age 10-26 years and diagnosis of AIS undergoing posterior fusion surgery. Study participants will be randomized into either a local injection of 0.25% bupivacaine with epinephrine or a placebo of equal volume injectable saline. Patient-reported outcomes will be collected at 1-, 6-, 12- and 24-months postoperatively.

Bupivacaine Infiltration and Postoperative Pain

Effect of EDDY and Manual Dynamic Activation Techniques on Postoperative Pain in Retreatment

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of EDDY and manual dynamic activation (MDA) techniques on postoperative pain (PP) associated in retreatment. Ninety patients scheduled for retreatment were treated at one visit. After the single visit retreatment procedure, the patients were divided into two groups (n = 45) on the basis of the need for additional irrigation activation procedures (EDDY and MDA). The patients' post-treatment pain levels were asked to rate the intensity of their pain on a 10-point numerical rating scale (NRS) at 12th, 24th, 48th, and 72th hours and 7 days.

BiZact Tonsillectomy in the Pediatric Population

This study has been designed to evaluate how effective the Bizact tonsillectomy device is in reducing operating time and complications that occur after surgery. This device operates in a different way than the standard device that is used for most tonsillectomies. In 2019, a study was conducted in 186 children and adults using this device in tonsillectomies. Results showed lower blood loss and shortened time in surgery. However, the rate for bleeding as a complication after surgery was the same as other procedures that are used in tonsillectomy
