Filter by:FPCOS is associated with an adverse cardiometabolic profile, consisting of increased total or central adiposity, increased insulin resistance and abnormal glucose metabolism. Low-grade chronic inflammation predicts cardiovascular outcomes and is observed in women with PCOS. However, obesity is also associated with increased inflammatory markers. Obesity is per se associated with increased adipose expression and plasma levels of leptin, lower expression of adiponectin, and elevated inflammatory markers. To study the insulin resistancećinflammatory markers and cardiovascular risk in women with PCOS, body weight status should be considered. Investigator therefore conduct this retrospective study to evaluate the insulin resistancećinflammatory and cardiovascular markers between PCOS and non-PCOS among obese and non-obese women.
In addition to chronic anovulation and hyperandrogenemia, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is also characterized by peripheral insulin resistance and hyperinsulinaemia, which in turn lead to the development of diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Serum markers of inflammation are being increasingly recognized as predictors of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk, and chronic low-grade inflammation has been recently proposed to play a role in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to evaluate the effects of commonly used non-pharmacologic (diet and lifestyle change) and pharmacologic (oral contraceptives, metformin, anti-androgens) treatment strategies on classical and surrogate cardiovascular risk markers in women with PCOS. The study hypothesis is that some of the commonly used therapies of women with PCOS may have more favorable effects on classical and surrogate markers of cardiovascular risk then others or some of them may even confer a higher risk of cardiovascular events
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition characterized by infertility, infrequent periods and amenorrhea or irregular bleeding plus anovulatory infertility. Clomid is the standard first drug of treatment for ovulation induction. Ovulation and conception will occur in approximately 75 and 30 percent of cases respectively. Cases not ovulating in response to doses of clomid up to 150 mg/day are known as clomid resistant PCOS.
The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of two isocaloric maintenance diets with different meal timing distribution on insulin resistance hyperandrogenism and cytochrome P450c17 alpha activity in lean PCOS women. The investigators hypothesis is that in lean PCOS women a Breakfast Diet (BD) which consist in high calorie breakfast and reduced dinner, vs Dinner Diet (DD) which consist in high calorie dinner with reduced breakfast; the BD will improve glucose and insulin response to OGTT and would decrease the hyperandrogenism and cytochrome P450c17 alpha activity.
To test whether GnRHa withheld 2-3 days before ovulation trigger reduces the incidence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in infertile high-risk patients with polycystic ovaries (PCOs) who have been treated with gonadotropins for in vitro fertilization (IVF) or Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is often associated with pathological conditions, such as insulin resistance (IR), type 2 diabetes (DM2), obesity and it has potentially increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Of note, risk factors for CVD including dyslipidaemia, hypertension, oxidative stress and inflammation are associated with PCOS. The investigators want to evaluate the effects of two different types of E/P therapy on cardiovascular risk in PCOS.

Both oxidative stress and Bisphenol A (BPA) had been associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). BPA, one of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), is an environmental estrogen used in the synthesis of plastics, is a "high-volume production" chemical with widespread human exposure. BPA was been reported in several female reproductive disturbance. However, the pathological pathway of BPA impact on female reproductive system had not been well-understood. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have a role in the modulation of gamete quality and gamete interaction. Persistent and elevated generation of ROS leads to a disturbance of redox potential that in turn causes oxidative stress (OS). The first part of The investigators study is aim to evaluate the oxidative stress impact on the biochemical parameters in women with PCOS; the secondary part of the investigators study is to investigate the BPA on the clinical and biochemical of women with PCOS; finally, the investigators plan to test the hypothesis that BPA might increase oxidative stress and then elevated ROS in women with menstrual disturbance, furthermore, the role of oxidative stress and BPA impact on insulin resistance and metabolic disturbance will be also investigated. Study and control cases will be included. Serum total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), Bisphenol A (BPA), and clinical/biochemical parameters will be obtained for all cases. Oxidative stress and BPA will be evaluated with all clinical/biochemical parameters for all subjects.
The main aims of this study are: - to investigate and compare the effects of long lasting use (59 weeks) of vaginal and oral contraceptives on androgen secretion, insulin and glucose metabolism, lipid profile, and serum levels of SHBG and hs-CRP in women with PCOS. - to compare the metabolic effects of oral and vaginal combined contraceptives and to find out whether oral or transvaginal contraceptive can be recommended to a particular group of women, for example in women with increased metabolic risks. - to clarify whether the unfavourable effects of combined contraceptives diminish with time (after use of one year).
