CDR Investing in Fatherhood Process Study & Evaluation

This study will evaluate the Investing in Fatherhood: New Pathways program of Child Development Resources (CDR), a Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood (HMRF) grantee. The program will deliver parenting education, relationship skills training, job preparedness and financial planning, and case management support. This research will consist of a descriptive process and program evaluation study, with research questions focusing on recruitment and retention and short-term participant outcomes.

GP_Posit is an intervention where mothers will learn how to participated in their preterm infant's care and positioning while being guided by a nurse. Preliminary effects will be estimated on maternal sensitivity, stress and anxiety as well as preterm infant's neurodevelopment.

Integrating Behavioral Treatment in Primary Care

This study seeks to assess the usefulness of Parent-Child Care (PC-CARE), a brief behavioral intervention for children with difficult behaviors. It will test whether PC-CARE can help families who talk to their pediatricians about behavior problems by improving parent-child relationships, decreasing disruptive behaviors, and improving parents' knowledge and use of effective parenting strategies. Pediatricians who observe or are told their 2-10-year-old patients have difficult behaviors, such as aggression, disobedience, tantrums, trouble focusing, and/or angry and irritable behaviors, will refer patients to this study. At a first assessment, parents will complete questionnaires about the child's behaviors, parents and children will participate in a 12-minute play observation, and children will have their heart rate and blood flow measured during a 6-minute play observation. After this assessment, families will be randomly assigned either to begin PC-CARE right away or to wait about two months to begin PC-CARE. Those who begin right away will attend weekly one-hour appointments for six weeks. During appointments, parents and children report on difficult behaviors from the week, learn new positive communication, regulation, and behavior management skills, are observed during a 4-minute play observation, are coached to use the skills (i.e., have the therapist tell the parent how to use skills while interacting with the child), and discuss how to incorporate these skills at home. Parents and children are also asked to play together for five minutes daily at home. At the end of the six weeks, parents and children will complete the same assessments they did at the beginning. Those who wait to begin PC-CARE will be asked to complete the same questionnaires and observations again before beginning PC-CARE. They will then receive the same treatment as families who began PC-CARE right away. All families will be called one- and six- months after ending PC-CARE to complete a brief questionnaire about the child's behaviors. Main study hypotheses include: 1. Parents' positive communication with children will improve with PC-CARE 2. Parents will report less parenting stress after PC-CARE 3. Parents will report fewer child behavior problems after PC-CARE 4. Children will show lower stress reactivity (heart rate and blood flow) after PC-CARE 5. Parents will report similar levels of child behavior problems one- and six-months after completing PC-CARE

A Social Media Intervention on Promoting Oral Heath Among Iranian Adolescents

Online social networking sites, such as Telegram, possess a number of useful features that could enhance oral health promotion interventions, including the ability of users to share personal information, which is aggregated and displayed to other users .This study is a longitudinal controlled trial that is designed to investigate the effectiveness of a multi-component intervention on improving oral health in adolescents and their mothers. Participants will be allocated in three groups with a) an intervention group in which mothers and children receive the intervention and questionnaires via Telegram, b) only the children receive the intervention via Telegram and mothers and children receive the questionnaires, and c) mothers and children are in active control group and only receive the questionnaires. The intervention package contains behavior change techniques targeting outcome expectancy, self-efficacy, action planning, coping planning, and self-monitoring. The active control group receives an information sheet regarding recommendations on Oral health behaviors. There will be 3 assessment points in time, baseline, 1 month and 6 months after the interventions. The primary outcome of this study is to estimate the dyadic mechanisms between mothers and their children regarding improving oral health. Secondary outcome is to investigate whether oral health behavior did improve in the intervention groups in general and also to find the psychological mechanism behind the changes during the time of the study.

CenteringParenting Clinical Intervention on Kindergarten Readiness in Early Childhood

Disparities in health begin in early childhood. Early life experiences influence brain development and have significant implications on future health and developmental outcomes. Low-income children are at greater risk of developmental delays in large part due to a lack of an enriched environment. Disparities in early childhood development increase risk for stunted academic achievement throughout the life course. Primary care is a universal exposure in early childhood and therefore is also a significant entry point for promoting optimal child development. There is a need to provide effective, low-cost, and scalable interventions in primary care to support early childhood development.The CenteringParenting intervention is designed to reduce negative health and developmental outcomes within a model of group routine child health care. To date, there is no evidence of the benefits of the CenteringParenting intervention on school readiness, or improvements in parental behaviors that support optimal developmental milestones and achievement. The intent of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the CenteringParenting intervention on school readiness in early childhood, as measured by language development at 24 months, (in addition to health care utilization, child routine care maintenance, parenting stress, caregiver behaviors and attitudes).

Parenting for Lifelong Health - Thailand

Pilot design: The feasibility pilot of PLH for Young Children in Thailand has a single-site, pre-post design with no control group, with the aims of assessing programme implementation, cultural and contextual relevance, and study feasibility. Although there is no comparison group and it is not designed to test effects, the pilot also has a provisional goal of reductions in child physical and emotional abuse at one-month post-intervention. RCT design: The RCT of PLH for Young Children Thailand is a randomized, controlled, observer-blinded, single-site trial with two parallel groups and a primary endpoint goal of reductions in child physical and emotional abuse at one month and three-months post-intervention. Randomisation will be performed at the individual level with a 1:1 allocation ratio. Allocation: Using a 1:1 allocation ratio, the 120 participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group using the concealed computerized programme Sealed Envelope. An external researcher based at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford, and who is not directly involved in the study, will generate the random sequence. The Project Coordinator and Co-Investigator McCoy will notify participants of their allocation status via telephone following the collection of baseline data, in order to ensure that participants remain blind to their status during the initial assessment. Blinding: Due to the involvement of facilitators and coaches in the delivery of the programme, blinding will not be possible for deliverers; moreover, participants cannot be blinded to their allocation status following the initial assessment. However, the allocation status of other participants will be kept concealed from participants in order to reduce the risk of contamination. Data collectors gathering outcome and process evaluation data, as well as statisticians providing support in data analysis, will be blinded to participant allocation status for the purposes of minimizing assessment bias. Cases of compromised blinding will be immediately reported to the Research Manager, who will consult with the research team on an appropriate course of action. Un-blinding of participants will only be permitted if any instances of significant harm due to participation in the study are reported by a participant or any member of the project team at any stage of the study. A Pilot Efficacy and Implementation Study of the Strengths Intervention Project

The purpose of this study is to test a strengths-based intervention to be delivered in a primary care setting with adolescents and a parent. Investigators want to find out if the intervention can help parents and teens communicate. Specifically Investigators want to see if they can help parents and teens identify and build teen's strengths. Half the dyads will receive the educational materials in conjunction with their teen's well-child visit, while the other half will receive usual care at the well-child visit and receive the educational materials at the end of the study. Additionally, Investigators expect that a strengths-based intervention may also impact adherence to treatment in youth with a chronic illness. As such, Investigators will include a subgroup of teenagers diagnosed with asthma in this study, to assess whether the strengths-based intervention that the Investigators developed has an impact on adherence.
